View of Lucca's Piazza Anfiteatro or Roman Amphiteatre through a mirror hung outside a shop.According to the guide authored by Giulo Chelazzi "Lucca and Surroundings" the amphitheater was built outside the (city) walls during the 2nd century AD. For four centuries, until the 6th century it was a place of huge spectacles. After it was abandoned it became a source of building materials. What remained was radically changed duing the middle ages. What we see today can be attributed to Lorenzo Nottolini who was commissioned to re-arrange the site in 1830. The regular alternation of buildings of different heights and the ground floor arches create a space which can be perceived the perfect elliptical shape and feeling of the old theatre.
I have seen this Piazza photographed beautifully with a wide angled lens and fish eye lens and my own equipment could not do it such justice. My response was to take a shot through this mirror.
It was lovely to sit here in the evening with a glass of wine and watch as children played at chasing the pigeons in the oval of the Piazza.

Hello Bev,

Very clever and inventive!

Lovely warm ochre colours in the surroundings of the mirror as well as in the reflection of the buildings.

I also like the way there are dimly seen details in the dark to the right of the mirror.

The line of three terracotta pots in diminishing sizes, with their varied contents acts as a firm anchor in the FG.

I visited Lucca several years ago - it's a lovely place.

Well done!

Regards,

Peter.

What a good idea - it looks like you are looking through a frame of a window.
Nicely shown Bev. The plants and their pottery containers are attractive too.
TFS - I'm keen to see your Italy photos - makes me homesick!! (Or holiday-sick!!)

Hello Bev
Thank you for this original photo. Photographing through a mirror is a special challange to avoid your own reflection and of the sun too. You must also find the correct angle to shoot exactly what you want. Here, you mastered all the difficulties to make this splendid image of the anfiteatro. The colors, the sky and the point of view are perfect. I love that shelf with the clay flower pots.
Nicely done
Serge

It's indeed a wonderful place Bev.
I will get myself a glass of wine and join you, watching children play and admiring the buildings surrounding this Piazza.
Good choise to make the picture though the mirror, creates a very cosy atmosphere.

Hello Bev, I followed your link and arrived here!
Love this POV,what a lucky find, seeing this view through the mirror.
The pots on the shelf add a nice touch.
The dark surrounding bg really brings out the colours of the scene.
Tfs, regards Jean.
