This small city jewel in Tuscany's crown has its ambience described as "simpatico, molto simpatico". At one time Lucca had around three hundred towers and most were demolitioned to provide building materials for other building work. The clock tower survived simply because of its usefulness for Lucca's citizens for telling the time.
The walls of Lucca are the only major city walls in Italy to have survived the 19th century destruction. The low but wide walls were used by motor traffic until the 1970's when a ban was placed on such traffic to preserve them. Nowadays, the Lucchese walk, jog and roller skate their circuit throughout the day but especially during the early morning and evening. The walls are the best place to catch the sunset behind the Pisan mountains. This tree lined circuit can be seen as the line of trees just below the line of mountains in this shot. The other tower is the bell tower of the church of San Frediano.

Bev, I found your notes very interesting. These towns are just so unusual to visit - so, so different from our way of life in NZ.
A good pic for the theme,as we also get to see Lucca and the surrounding area.

Hi Bev,

Time and a timeless feeling in this charming Tuscan town.
Beautiful warm colours and a lovely composition. How you must have enjoyed yourself looking for the right POV. Meanwhile your husband no doubt tried to sneek in a group of tourists........

Hello Bev,
Incredible rooftop view. This is my vision of Tuscany and it reminds me of scenes filmed in Italy. Very attractive scenic vista with good details and colors. Greetings! Danilo

Hello, Bev.

A beautiful picture of gorgeous red roofs and fabulous stonework set against the lovely green trees and the hills of Tuscany. Very nice indeed with the clocktower and belltower well placed in the composition.

Well exposed and sharp too. Looks like you've had a fine holiday in Tuscany - I'm going to have a look out for some more from there, especially as we never really got away this summer!

Best Wishes,

John.

Hello Bev,

Even before I looked at the details, I warmed to the wonderful colour tones, so reminiscent of Italy!
Good pov, interesting details and very nicely composed.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev

A lovely scenic view here, good strong detail and nice colours. I like the layered feel here with the buildings then the greenery and the hills in the distance

TFS and for joining in the theme

kind regards Helen

I love the reds and oranges in the image Bev. Nicely composed with good detail throughtout. Clocktowers always stand out so well no matter which part of the world.

This has (no pun intended) a truly timeless quality. Great colours, fine composition -- something very classic about this image - Old World Masters --

Excellent landscape sceanery.

Loads of interesting details and I love the contrast between the mountains in the background and the town in the foreground - a super POV.
Thanks for sharing
