Civita è una frazione di Bagnoregio, è completamente isolata ed è raggiungibile solo attraverso un ponte pedonale in cemento armato. La causa di questo isolamento è la progressiva erosione della collina e della vallata circostante, che ha dato vita alle tipiche forme dei calanchi e che continua ancora oggi, rischiando di far scomparire la frazione, che per questo è stata chiamata "il paese che muore".
La frazione, attualmente abitata da poche famiglie, è ogni anno meta di numerosi turisti ed è stata diverse volte utilizzata come set cinematografico. All'interno del borgo rimangono varie case medievali, la chiesa di San Donato (che si affaccia sulla piazza principale), il Palazzo Vescovile, un mulino del '500, la casa natale di San Bonaventura e la porta di Santa Maria, con due leoni che tengono tra le zampe una testa umana (a ricordo di una rivolta popolare degli abitanti di Civita contro la famiglia orvietana dei Monaldeschi). Il vecchio paese è iscritto all'associazione de I borghi più belli d'Italia.
Suggestivo il presepe vivente, che si tiene nel periodo natalizio ed è ormai diventato una tradizione. Le vicende di Maria e Giuseppe sono ambientate nelle vie medievali, con effetti scenografici straordinari, confermati dalla numerosa partecipazione popolare.
La prima domenica di giugno e la seconda di settembre viene allestito nella piazza principale il secolare Palio della Tonna ("tonda" nel dialetto locale), in cui le contrade di Civita si sfidano a dorso di un asino, sostenuti dal tifo degli abitanti.
Bagnoregio fu testimone della Campagna risorgimentale dell'Agro Romano per la liberazione di Roma nel 1867. Conserva la "Piramide" Monumento-Sacrario garibaldino custode dei Volntari caduti negli scontri contro i pontifici. Il Museo centrale della Campagna è a Mentana (Rm), vedi www.museomentana.it

Civita di Bagnoregio is a town in the Province of Viterbo in Central Italy, a frazione of the comune of Bagnoregio, 2 km (about 1 mile) W from it. It is about 145 km (90 mi) north of Rome.
It was founded by Etruscans over twenty-five hundred years ago, has seen its population dwindle to just fifteen residents over the course of the 20th century, and has only recently been experiencing a tourist revival, due in great measure to the American travel guide Rick Steves who popularized it in the 1990s and calls it his favorite hill town.
The town is noted for its striking position atop a plateau of friable volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley, in constant danger of destruction as its edges fall off, leaving the buildings built on the plateau to crumble. As of 2004, there are plans to reinforce the plateau with steel rods to prevent further geological damage. The city is also much admired for its architecture, some spanning several thousand years. Civita di Bagnoregio owes much of its unaltered condition to its relative isolation: the town was able to withstand most intrusions of modernity as well as the destruction wrought by two world wars.
The town was placed on the World Monuments Fund's 2006 Watch List of the 100 Most Endangered Sites, due to the threats it faces from erosion and unregulated tourism.

a very bold composition of interesting village on the rock.
and your color of this picture fits its old air so much.
the figure of old stone buildings and the pattern of rock-layer make excellent contarst, this contarst makes me feel "very long time" in this picture.
