Dimensioni: 12-14 mm. Descrizione: cimice, rossa e nera, con capo largo e triangolare, occhi prominenti, corpo appiattito ed ovoidale, emielitre con bande nere trasversali che raggiungono il margine, membrane alari con macchie bianche. Per un’identificazione certa della specie bisogna osservare se lo scutello presenta lunghe setole raddrizzate (in Lygaeus equestris queste sono sostituite da peli coricati). Un altro carattere distintivo sono le bande nere vicine agli occhi, ridotte in L. simulans, più espanse in L. equestris (in genere più larghe dell’occhio)..........
