This is quite incredible - the sense of immense space, the fantastic color of the clouds reflecting on the sharply shown surface of the water, the wonderful shape and grand size of the cloud formation. Fantastic image with great PP work - well done.

Mr Fisher you are starting fill upmy favorites section this shot is imho one of your best the colours are fantastic and the pov brilliant thought youd caught Vesuvius erupting for a minute the glow of light on the water is excellent photography i rate this one up there with the two starlings you posted a while back

this looks exactly the pov from wich Pliny the Elder decided to start (and to die) by his boat when he looked the eruption of Vesuvio on 24 of august of 79 AD.
Your capture is simply fabolous.. not only for composition.. but also.. for the evocative taste and atmosfere.. so incredible..
a great expolosion.. yes.. but an explosion of colours and life.. intense and really vivid.. where present and past are melted togheter..
final visual result is really effective and romantic..

Spectacular results, the HDR gave off fantastic and explosive colors while the mountain silhouetted looks menacing with its white clouds hovering above it looking like smoke.

What an amazing shot!
It's full of drama, colour and dreadful speculation!
Your composition is excellent, containing the mirror image of clouds and reflection.

My husband and I wanted to climb this volcano when we were there but sadly on the only days that we would have been able to go, Vesuvius wore a cloud! C'est la vie!

Hello, Derek.

I'm not quite sure just to what extent you have processed this image in the way of colour saturation or colour changes but it is still a very impressive photograph and well deserving of all the praise it has so far received.

Also, I'm not overly impressed with HDR manipulation in general as I find most of the images seem to be a bit "overcooked" and also lacking in sharpness: I think if HDR processing is to be done successfully, then it has to be done gently and subtely otherwise the result is garish and unconvincing. But, even allowing for the wonderful range of strong colours here, this image is sharp as a razor with great detail and a perfectly managed exposure.

Excuse the use of a rather hackneyed expression, but this is Absolutely Fabulous!

Hi Derek,

No doubt, you got a great sky with wonderful cloud formation, but to document this event so perfectly, is not everybody's piece of cake! You did a great job!
The colors are perfectly shown, with cloud formation looks like a volcanic eruption. The sharpness and POV are perfect.

Stunning colours here in this image, particular the reflecting is awesome. The dark colours appears to be almost "unnatural" but for sure they are. The composition while using the rule of thirds creates a well balanced composition.

Very dramatic and beautifull image.
Good handling of the HDR process. Great and well balance composition. I realy enjoy looking at those deep tones of orange, reflection those great yellow cloods...fine details...a real WOW image.

Good exposure, tones and contrast. Rich deep saturated color and image. I just love it.

Wow, I missed this one Derek
Its certainly mind blowing tis image, and maybe your best to date. The HDR is subtle and the colours are superb, although the greenish tinge in the image reminds me of a Aurora you would only see in Iceland so did you see these colours with your own eyes?
A brilliant shot none the less
