Il Chiccaio - The Sweet Shop
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Chiccaio comes from "chicco", which means actually grain (coffee) bean, or grape in Italian, but "chiccho" also means "sweets" in Tuscany when parents are talking with a child...
...and a "chiccaio" is literally a place where these are sold.
I am aware that this is not a perfectly well composed photo, with all the people on the left blocking the view... the shop assistants not captured that well...
I was in a hurry when I took the photo, I just liked the colours a lot...
I hope it's still nice... |

I like it but I feel there's something missing in this shot...perhaps some motion to it. It looks very static..a bit of blurred motion would have help to create some dynamism in the scene.
Just my thoughts. Please don't take my critique harshly Frank. I like it but I just feel it could have been better here...Thanks!:)
Sometimes I wish we had the privilege of circling the area with ribbons like they do for a scene of crime and put a placard .."keep off...photographers at work" at such places. I am sure this would have made a great shot if you didnt have the crowd you have on the left. My suggestion would have been to try the colours tuff in the glass windows...they seem to be arranged pretty well if you ask me. Just my thoughts, I hope you dont mind this very long note..just sharing a few ideas..
Cheers

I think despite the crowds this came out a pretty good photo. Because of the crowd it looks alive, and because it is facing a street, with a traffic sign on the right it came out as a nice street picture.
By the way, thank you for your comments on my photo, "Park Bench."

Hi Frank,
A colourful night capture and you manage the difficult lighting well! Nothing fancy, just a slice of life as it happens everywhere all the time... documentary quality. We cannot always "compose" life the way we want it to be, but we can record what it actually is... and you do that well here -
Regards,
Pablo
Looks good Frank! I agree with Talisman... if you had a tripod, it would have been better to have some motion blur (and still have the lady shopping sharp if possible!). Colors are great (I love the sign). I've tried a workshop, hope you don't mind. TFS!
Julien.
