[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a detail from a fountain on the Piazza della Signoria called "The Fountain of Neptune". It was built by Bartolomeo Ammannati.

I remember that I found it really impressive, especially when I got close and focused on the details, much more "dynamic" than the usual fountain...

I tried to emphasize this effect of movement by framing it in this way.

This is scanned from a photo print, I had to sharpen it, but that is all I did in PP.

Frank

P.S.: I have posted a workshop version.
I have converted this to b/w and brightened the shadow on the man's face, so that now even his right eye is (barely) visible.

Which version do you prefer - the workshop version or the original one? Feedback welcome!

Hi Frank,

I'm definitely missing the second eye of this statue. It seems to look very strange.

Katya

Nice shot. Good DOF . Nice detail in the foreground statue but still can see detail of background statue.

Regards,

Tom

Hi Frank, the scanning came out well.
The arch behind the man's head looks very strategically placed, as does the horse looking over his shoulder. Is that a horn on his head? And I see pixie ears too. The shadow around the eye doesn't worry me at all.
It's good, not a "gotta take a photo of the man and horse kinda photo." Well captured, thank you.

Hi Frank!
I like the original better. The color off sets the statue. Great composition!
I love statue pictures.

Amazing photo, details on the main subject are taked really well by the light and your camera also, is beautyfull, is expresive, is fully of grace, is an excellent photo!!! =)

about your workshop, i personally like both photos, something really valuable. Excellent Work. Amazing =)

Hi Frank,
What is really working with me here is your POV and composition, together they make your capture very dynamic! To me the angle of lighting enhances the feeling of strength in his face, I have no need at all to see his right side eye since I don't perceive this as a portrait... The lines in his posture is supported by the horses head, the main lines in the two work well together! Very well done, by far I prefer the original here -
Regards,
Pablo

ola Frank!
a figura mais escura contrasta lindamente com aquele fundo mais claro.toda a luz e sombra estão perfeitos,o enquadramento soberbo.
Luci.

Nicely composed, nice shadows and the background colour. The statue looks alive.

Hi Frank at times we don't recognize the value of a photo until you go back & look at it a second & third time. This one is new to me, but it's interesting to see the man turned toward the horse, in those days the horse was man's best friend, and this shot shows it very well, bravo!!! who cares if the right eye or the background horse is just perceptible, it's a beauty for me.
Ros

Oh jeez, I almost like the background more than the statue!

But that's what I like about the photo, the fact that the background is just as stunning as teh forefront, thats very inspiring! Great idea, and good POV! Nice choice in frame colour.

TFS!

Biance.
