Suzanne and I were sitting down underneath Bernini's colonnade that surrounds St. Peter's Square at the Vatican. I looked up and this is exactly what I saw! The apparent distortion is not a distortion since the colonnade is elliptical.

PP Notes:
- Full frame;
- Curves;
- Luko's USM;
- Re-sized for TL.

Enjoy!

Bonjour Pierre

A superb pov looking up. I like the repetition of the 4 columns. Bon travail!

Martine

Wow, excellent POV and composition! Those pillar lines creates very interesting tunnel effect, great!
I really thought it's barrel distorsion we see here, thanks for the explanation!

Another great vacational shot, congratulations!
Regards,
Robert

Great POV...Excellent composition. It looked very different as a thumbnail...equally interesting in full size. TFS

SuPERB angle, that's iot, USING YOUR EYES! Well done, (*_*)

Hi Pierre
very nice architectural picture ,bravo
i think the sharpness of two near columns is alittle high.
you took womderfull composition.
Hamid

I like especially the space you kept on the pictures bottem. It brings our view out of the dark centre and gives an entrance to this huge impressive building.
I see you laying down on the back on top of your backsack suffering some stretching pains, taking this.
Nice done Pierre
Huub

Wow! Pierre, you always find excellent point of views. This is stunning. Did you lay on your back for this shot? I love the perspective. Great composition without any cropping. Nice work.

Hi Pierre.Very beautiful photograph in a beautiful compositie. Already i thought that you looked at in the depth. But the tale tells differently.

Frans

Hi Pierre,
lovely shot! Actually, I have something similar from Turkey (the columns look the same) that I intended to post soon!
Nice graphic created with an origianl POV, as usual very well done!
M.

Looking up.. Always a graet idea and gives different POV. No lost details even the darkest part in center and either on brightest side on front facade of colunms. Nice composition and shot.
Elif

Hi Pierre,
Nice shot! Your comopsition is very effective. Because you didn't center the square, and got closer to two of the columns, they look huge and really pull the eye. Your note says looking up...but, it could easily be looking down, too. And, good eye movement overall...I don't really seen an "anchor."
Well done!
Richard

Hello Pierre,
Interesting perspective and quite good management of difficult lighting! Good details and colours also in the darker parts

ola pierre!

Bien compose! Bravo! Michel

It has been many, many years since I visited the Vatican, but it sure is impressive. So is the detail you show us. I couldn't help but tilt my head backwards :-)

Annie

Strange POV and I like it...when photography is becomes a hobby...you'll see the world in a different way :-)

Great shot Pierre, simply amazing how you detect such patterns in buildings - special eye and good catch. It is all very beautiful, colours, POV, DOF and exposure. Very well done, and TFS,

Looking up always pays off, Pierre. Went walking in Antwerp this afternoon, and got a painful neck from all that looking up ;o). I love the vertical near-symmetry in your compo. Great lighting, the big differences in brightness of the ceiling are handled very well.
I intend to visit Rome next spring, and I'll definitely check out this colonnade.
TFS.

Hi Pierre, this is very well seen: the composition and the pov is great. :)

Nice texture and colours as well. Take care, Yan

very cool POV Pierre :)
looking up usually givs very interesting view from places we least expected :)
i posted a photo before with the same title :P

Always nice to see a well-known building but then through the eyes of a photographer, so, a different POV and this one is yours, a very nice one, looking up between the pillars, "high" quality, Pierre !

Wow,
such a great prespective! Indeed I have as a "rule" for me always look up when visitng soe architecture site. It pays off most on the times ;))

great shot Pierre. And I love the "distortion"... It gives some illusion of great deph.

Very well done!
Take care, Stef :))

vue impressionnante !!!

Interesting picture:)

TFS!
