Oh yes amber it is lithuanian treasure! We have bigest amber museum in the world! The Lithuanian Amber Museum, located in Palanga, is devoted to all aspects of amber and houses over 25,000 specimens (15,000 with "Jurassic insects!"). This amber museum opened in 1963 and is housed in a former mansion of Count Feliksas Tiskevicius (built in 1897). The museum theme is both the formation of amber and the role amber has played in cultural history. Stone Age amber artifacts were found between 1860-1881, near Juodkrante, Curonian Lagoon, while mining for amber. The Lithuanian sea coast (Palanga, Sventoji) is the site of Neolithic amber artifacts (4000-1600 BC) and many amber artifacts have been found in graves dating from 1st - 3rd century. Amber Museum Gallery - Gintaro Galerija Muziejus (http://www.ambergallery.li/english) is located in Nida and Vilnius, Lithuania, and this website is an excellent introduction to their treasures. This museum/gallery displays amber from an artists perspective with prepared amber scuplted by Lithuanian jewellers and folk artists.
Have fun!
