The name of the famous Ohrid family Robevi is mentioned for the first time in 1379, on a tombstone inscribed in Church-Slavonic alphabet, in the yard of the church of the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos (St. Clement).
Hie construction of the original house of the Robevi family was finished on the 28th of April, 1827, which is testified by the inscription in Greek alphabet on a marble plate incorporated in the storeroom in the yard.
ITiis well-known tradesmen family from Ohrid, lived in this house for 35 years, from 1861 until 1862, when the notorious villain from Ohrid, Usref Bey, burned it down to its foundations. Two years later, in 1863 - 1864, the house that still exists today was built. The left part was occupied by Konstantin Robe, and the right one by his brother Anastas Robe.
Todor Petkov (1814-1899) from the village of Gari - Western Macedonia was hired as the main builder. He has origins in the famous woodcarving family of Ognen-ovci. Under his management, the interiors were manufactured: the ceilings, the cup¬boards and other ornaments carved in wood.
'I"he family of Robevi lived in this house until 1900, when they moved to Bitola and used to come to Ohrid only during the summer months.
From 1913 until 1919, during the Balkan and the First World Wars, there were Serbian soldiers accommodated in the house, and after their departure, the house was significantly damaged, and part of the woodcarvings taken to Nis.
After the World War II, in 1945, the house was protected as a cultural and histori¬cal monument.
In 1950, the National Museum was housed there, and in 1953, the building was nationalized and handed over to the National Museum for permanent use.
Ilie last reconstruction of this beautiful building was made in 1990, and it was reopened as a Museum. One part holds a presentation of the archaeological treasures, another part - a memorial floor on the Robevi family, and the top floor - the shirvan -has the function of the Ohrid manor.
