Friday theme 1st Feb 08 - Black & White outside

Lake Ohrid (Macedonian: Охридско Езеро, Ohridsko Ezero Albanian: Liqeni i Ohrit) straddles the mountainous border between the southwestern region of the Republic of Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is probably the oldest lake in Europe, preserving a unique aquatic ecosystem with more than 200 endemic species that is of worldwide importance. The importance of the lake was further emphasized when it was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1979. However, human activity on the lake shores and in its catchment area is resulting in the ecosystem coming under stress.
Lake Ohrid is the deepest lake of the Balkans, with a maximum depth of 288 m (940 ft) and a mean depth of 155 m (508 ft). It covers an area of 358 km² (138 sq mi), containing an estimated 55.4 km³ of water. It is 30.4 km long by 14.8 km wide at its maximum extent with a shoreline length of 87.53 km, shared between the Republic of Macedonia (56.02 km) and Albania (31.51 km).
Lake Ohrid and the Prespa Lakes belong to a group of Dessaret basins that originated from a geotectonic depression during the Pliocene epoch up to five million years ago on the western side of the Dinaric Alps. Worldwide, there are only a few lakes with similarly remote origins with Lake Baikal and Lake Tanganyika being the most famous. Most other, short-lived lakes have a life span of less than 100,000 years before they are eventually filled up with sediments. It is believed that in the case of Lake Ohrid this process was delayed by its large depth and small sediment input from filtered spring inflows. Moreover the Ohrid-Korca graben to the south of the lake is still tectonically active and might compensate sedimentation by subduction. Contrary to Lake Ohrid, Lake Prespa is likely to have turned dry several times in its history, as a result of its karstic underground.

Sunchani pozdravi i lep vikend,
J ;)))

Dobro jutro
Odlicna b@w fotografija...
odlicna kompozicija, kao i tonalitet...

Zdravo, Zoko:)

Ovakvu sam već stavila u favorite, ali crno-bela varijanta je takođe izuzetna:) Super kompozicija sa nekoliko geometrijskih oblika, odličan odgovor na temu:)

Pozdrav i lep vikend,
Slavica

simple and beautiful. I like it a lot.
regards,
szablak

Hello Zorica,
Black and white has the virtue of simplifying things... And if you choose a simple composition as well, the minimalistic effect even becomes stronger. Like in your photo.
I just would have chosen a straight frame, just to keep it simple ;o).
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

Novi mesec, nova slika...
Lepo uspela Crno/Bela fotka, superiska...
Lep rad u PP-u, kao istorijat o jezeru...
Poz. George

Great subject, and a visual surprise for a scene that we usually think of as being colorful. The composition would be better if the bottom line of the umbrella were above the horizon line in the background. The shadow under the umbrella gives me a chuckle, for some reason:)

pozdrav!
odlicna fotka, fino izbalansirana i prebacena u c/b.
mozda se je moglo izvuci jos vise detalja sa suncobrana, ali to zahtjeva jos vise rada u PS-u, i nije nikakva zamjerka, to ja samo na glas razmisljam :)))
pozdrav!
zoran

Hello Zorica,
The composition is well balanced and nice B&W
colors.
Well Done.TFS.
Greetings

hello my friend,

nice entry to Helen's theme.. lovely black and white of Lake Ohrid :)

have a lovely weekend.

regards, terry

Još jedan lep beli suncobran:)
Divan umetnički rad!Bravo Zoko!Pozdrav.
A.

A lower POV (to have the horizontal line of the umbrella not on the horizon line but above it) and a more simple frame would've been better, I guess, but this is a great B&W compo anyway.

thanks,
v
ps.I'll be back with points

Zdravo, Zorice!
Very nice composition here! It's strange to see snow on the beach, but I like it! Frame is like TV screen ;)

Hi Zorica,
A very good photo of this lonely umbrella on the edge of the wide sea. It's wonderfully covered by snow, and the dark circle on the ground looks great too. Good choice for B&W.

Lars

Good sharpness and light...
Great contribution to the theme..well done..

Anan

Hi Zorica,
This is a very good B&W compo.... I like the simplicity with well defined forms. Tonal range and contrast is just spot on. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Zorica,
Interesting composition and presentation! I really like the round edges, it gives an old TV effect. The b&w is a great choice for the compo. It's interesting how the edge of the shade matches exactly with the horizon at the far end of the water. Great pov!
Very interesting scene and work!
Nuné

Very interesting Compo. Even though the sky is cloudy, you have created a very deap shadow under the umbrella. It is totaly confusing. Snow has covered everything but in your way it seams that is a sunny Day. Also the umbrella is totally lined up with the horizon.
Good!
