[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A Great Horned Red-Eyed Owl. The owl was part of a raptor show; while I waited for it to hold still, every single person who passed by asked the keeper if it was true that owls can rotate their heads all the way around. Bless the keeper for being able to respond with the same answer in a polite tone; no, they only go 3/4 of the way around.

Wow, extreme close-up! Love the treatment of this shot .. looks like an oil painting.
So here's my question (which might be a silly question:) .. are the eyes really that red, or have you enhanced them?
Haha, a very patient keeper indeed!
Great shot Francis.

Hi Francis Xavier,

Interesting crop of this red-eyed owl - really a nice close-up. It seems a little fuzzy to me, but the eyes are sharp. Perhaps it is noise from a high ISO? It doesn't affect the impact too much, though, and this image still will grab people off the gallery fast!

I do like the POV and balanced composition!

Have a great day,
Reed

Ciao Francis

An interesting composition with a fine colour palette!
amazed with beautiful red eyes.
it is as a your beautiful painting feathers.
She has penetrating glances!
Lovely details have been captured
in this close of the owl
Greetings,

quality is quite so so, and i was disappointed aftere openning the thumbnail
because from the thumbnail size i saw a great close portrait perfectly framed with good angle ... etc
now, that's the first impression
after looking it a moment, the texture appears like a painting,
that's the reason of the rating, fist i thought "great", then "needs improvement", then "good", and finally returned to "great" when the disappointement has passed away

HI Francis.
Yikes he has devil's eyes.
With F/8.2 you should have had a sharper image but it has a softeness about it almost looking like a painting.
So you did good.
