What a super close-up of this magnificent bird. The feathers are a bit unsharp though, but his profile is so strong.

What an impressive model! You were at the right place at the right time - the weather was not on your side, there is no catchlight in the eye. Without a catchlight the life goes out of the photo. But, one has to make do with what is available. This too good a photo opportunity to let it slide by. The DOF causes the tip of the beak and the neck feathers to be slightly out of focus. F3.5 or F4 might have solved this. When you crop you must either do it aggressively (just eye and beak) or leave enough space around the model. When you are on the edge of the model the cropping interferes.
