[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I've posted a photo of this mill a few months ago but couldn't get the point of view I was looking for. I decided to revisit the location and get a better POV. After a short search this spot seem to do the trick for me. The water is a good lead in line and the sun in the back helped to draw the eye to the subject even more. The early moning light and the fresh green leaves and grass gave that part of the photo a wonderful rich color.

I decided to slow down the shutter speed to get some motion in the FG water. The motion is not caused by the current but by the wind blowing of the water creating the ripple effect. The shutter speed was slowed down by using a 0.9 ND filter. I used a 0.6 soft grad ND to balance the exposure.

The Noordmolen is a water mill located in the estate called Twickel. The mill was build in 1325 and restored in 1984 and again in 2006. The mill was used to produce oil. The mill is open for guided tours.

Hello Niek,
very nicely composed this shot and very well presented. The choice of the vertical format have perfectly framed the scene where the excellent quality you delivered enhanced even more the beauty of the place. I like the sense of peace and silence with the canal flowing by and leading the eye towards the little mill; the green of the vegetation brought lots of life in the compo and creates nice contrasts between the different tones..I like it!
Thanks for sharing it and regards,

Ele

Nice Niek - very pro style landscape and a good use of the vertical format.
Great sharpness and colour and the use of the grads to get a 2 second exposure has rendered the river flow well.

Hi Niek,
Beautiful shot of this old mill, the clarity and sharpness of the photo are excellent. Saturation of colours is really nice, overall this scene brings here a calm and peaceful mood. I can hear the silence...
Fine technical solution with slow shutter speed, you did a great job! TFS.

Kristof

A very pitoresque place Niek... and a lovely summer like atmosphere.
Due to the longer shutterspeed it almost looks as if the water is actually a stream. A wonderful effect.

Cheers,
Anneke

P.s.: see you Sunday!!!! looking forward to your visit!

Joli travail

Hi Niek,
I'm so glad you used a tripod here - the water has been made to look even more interesting as a result.
Nicely taken :-)

Best regards, Daniel

Hi Niek,

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The curve of the river leads our eyes toward the mill which is giving depth to the composition. The trees are framing well the river. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
