| This is a picture of a fire, which is lit during Easter (Pasen) in the eastern region of the Netherlands. The fire is built out of branches and trees, which the people remove before spring. The height can be up to 15 meters. On top a barrel, filled with oil, is placed. When the fire is ok, it will ignite the barrel in the end. This easter fires are common use for hundreds of years already, celebrating the spring season and thanking the gods that winter is over. |
