Welcome to Twente!

A warm welcome to Twente for my TL-friends Vandana, proud mother of my Nikon D70s, Vassilis and his wife, Frank from Belgium, Constantinos and all the other members who are making virtual travels here on TL.

Twente is the area were the baron was born almost half a century ago. The typical farms build in the 19th and 20th century is still a typical view in the landscape of this beautiful part of the Netherlands. I'm not sure if we are able to show our TL-visitors this part of the country, but if not you can enjoy the landscape now!

Appearantly I'm not able to do my PP-work as wished. I'm really puzzeled, the image appears in my "glass monitor" much more brighter as on my Laptop LCD monitor. What do I do wrong? A comparision I posted a WS. Is this better, the same or even worse?

Thanks for your time to read this crap and even more thanks if critiquing to help me improve...

PP-talk:
Shot in RAW, imported in Adobe PS.

In fact it is a composition or as you wishes a manipulated image in PS. I made several pictures from the same POV, but or the sky appeared OE or UE and the landscape the other way around. I definitely need a grey filter to correct this. Now I took two pictures, one with the sky reasonably well exposed, and the second one with the landscape with correct brightness and contrast. With the magic lasso I selected the sky, put this on an empty layer and did the same with the landscape. Put both layer together, flatten it, adjusted (fine tuning) brightness, contrast and saturation. Cropped, sharpened and add frame with text. Resized and sharpened again.

Good morning my friend

What an absolutely delightful scene and a wonderful looking place to grow up. Nice colours and a good balanced image. Just one small thing. Was it a touch misty or is the contrast a little low on the trees as they seem a tad pale.

Hope your well and you and the visitors all have a wonderful time

TFS regards Helen

Hans haze
Haze Hans!!
Little more contrast should have corrected this.
I have to be 'blind' when I judge and you have to do like wise Hans
So.. photo super.. haze is a point we cannot ignore

Hello Hans,

This has that look to it of an "Old Fashioned" Scene...beautiful clouds formations, hanging over the home in the BG... I see that haze again too Hans, Adding contrast does make it much better..but I wonder how it got like this in the first place ? Perhaps you need a Canon... LOL..(please smile at that.. just a joke).

I do like your composition my friend.. well done.

Cheers
Awatea

Hi Hans,
I love this image, actually two images. The background is so like the English painter Constable, the colours and textures are his to a tee.
The Clydesdale horse in the foreground makes a picture all by himself. They are such gentle giants.
Kindest regards my friend,
Pete.

Hi Hans,

First of all, this is a magnificent composition - a perfect example of why there are no rules in photography. Some people say "don't leave space behind an animal", but that's a load of crap. If it looks good, it's good. And this photo IS good :)

About your dilemma, I dare say that the WS photo is, indeed, a tad brighter and more vivid. However, this one has a slightly better balance between shadows and highlights. It's difficult to call it. Perhaps I would go with this one (not the WS), because of the more "natural" feel it has.

Regards,
Chris

Beau travail. Ambiance bien rendu par les couleurs et l'inertie de la photo. Cadrage de toute beauté super.. Réal.

Hi Hans

The grey horse is well placed in the bottom left corner. I like the soft, diffused light. Tfs!

Hello Hans,
A lovely photo to look at. What a beautiful place. I actually like the diffused soft look of the bg and sharp details on the horse. Each of my monitors seem to give the photos a slightly different appearance. TFS, JUlie

Hi dear Hans, It is always the same, LCD monitors and digital screens make a huge difference.

LCD is always darker and the colours are faded because of the components of the LCD.

What I do is I work my photos in Photoshop on my digital screen and I work with Windows Vista Ultimate Aero Glass. (This is a great invention by Windows). This is how I see my images and the heck with the other screens.
The best is to be happy with what I see with my digital screen. When I open TL on my laptop, it is quite different from what I work my photos on.
And the people judge our images with the screen they have, this is a problem I talked about from quite some time now.

A tip: When you open your RAW images in Photoshop, make sure to open them in sRGB IEC61966-1. Because otherwise, when you upload your images on the web, the colours will be changed by the web colour profile. The web colour profile is sRGB IEC61966-1.
I hope this tip will help you.

For the image, it is a great composition with the horse grazing on the bottom left hand side and the farm house on the top.
Nice cloud pattern.

Well done.

Follow my tip and give me some feedback!

Take care, Yan :)

hello hans!
beautiful again, i like this colors and composition.

A beautiful scene and great frame. Cannot help with the picture dilemma I go by trial and error myself. I do agree though that it needed more contrast. they both are wonderful pov's. TFS

Hello Hans:)))
Same here.... but it is strange!!! my laptop shows this image darker but my PC is equipped with 20 inch wide Apple LCD and there is brighter and better... anyway that monitor always amaze me by picture quality - why is that difference about brightness??? - sorry but I feel stupid... I don't know.
Original picture is nice anyway but if I have to choose... I would make that from WS as # 1.
Rob is suggesting haze... I think he is right.
Many thanks for this show - horse is gorgeous.
Regards - Tom
