Ugly...tribute to Calamity :-)

When wandering through the Artis Zoo I encountered a nasty looking crock. Immediately I remembered the words of Linda alias Calamity Linda whenever I was strolling along a river or creek she wrote: "watch out for the crocks!" even when I was shooting in the Netherlands. Well the nastiest animal here in Holland is the Homo Sapiens. Boy Calamity knew how to deal with these ugly creatures.

So this special portrait is dedicated to Linda, looking at this picture I have to think at you! And you know why? Those eyes, those irresistible eyes!

BTW don't judge to hard about his teeth, he's waiting for his orthodontic braces!

Big hug from the Baron :-)

PP work:
Shot in RAW, cropped, adjusted brightness and contrast, increased saturation. Converted to JPEG, selected the eyes, increased red tones, resized, sharpened and add frame.

Shot with focal length of 120mm an with 400 ASA

Hii. Hans..
Great photo..
Behram..

he does not look that bad - a little dentist job on the teeth and some botox for the wrinkles...
terrific close-up with nice-ugly details, i would not like to meet him in the dark.
how is the amsterdam zoo? just came back from our cologne zoo - nice and packed as always.
best wishes & take care, thor.

Hi Hansie,

Goeie griezels, inderdaad als je dit in je rivieren hebt, dan is a word of warning wel op zijn plaats!

The camouflage patterns suggest this is an army-trained croc, Hans. Nice work on the eyes, they sure stand out. What I like best here: the teeth: a dentist's 'wet dream', I guess ;o).
Nice compo, and you're right: it's an ugly creature.

Isn't she lovely ?
No wonder women like to have buckets of her skin, haha
Look at her eyes. Beautiful even without mascara.!
Maar goed dat je geen macro shot van haar heb genomen, Hans.
Zo te zien houdt ze niet van fotograven. (of juist wel ?)

What a portrait! By the way, I am slowly reading/browsing a nice book: "On Ugliness" by Umberto Eco. This image would certainly fit within his numerous illustrations.

Heb je gezegd " kijk eens naar het vogeltje ?"

Man, how ugly can you get.
No wonder they are so pissed off.
And you,re right about the eyes.
Just hope Linda doesn't take it personal :-).
Good one
Piet

YIKES!! That is one UGLY creature! Kinda reminds me of myself in the morning! HAHA! I can't think of a worse friend to swim with than Him! Thanks for the picture Hans! Braces do help, but not with these creatures!
B-)
Linda

Excellent Hans - I think the best and most original crocodile portrait I have seen on this site, the point of view really is excellent! The details, sharpness, expression, depth of field all very good indeed - really a great shot, Dutchie!

Hi Hans,
Sharp close-up on this monster!
The red eyes look like those of a devil seeing a sinner entering in hell! You breathed his breath? I imagine it sulfurous!
Good wink to Linda!
Bravo! Annie

I think a pair of boots would make a friendlier look out of this red-eyed crockodile/monster! :))) The poor animal is ugly!!! I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it...
In what concerns your "ugly" shot :), what can I say, you've done it , beautifully, again! :)
Best regards,
Diana

Hello Hans,

Ugly, indeed, but a very well captured portrait, perfect POV, clarity and colors. TFS

Nice close up shot my dear friend, the details is wonderful, great textures and pov, very fierce and agrassive look! Well captured.

have a nice day,

Cheers,
Sweety

Hi Hans,
Thats one mean looking croc, excellent POV and details, the red eyes you have given him make it look even more evil.
Well done
Regards Andy

Poor thing, It's not his fault if he's so ugly ;)))

But you did a superb portrait of him, he should be very happy with the result. Give him a nice kiss for me, he might change into a prince ;)

Hi Hans
WOW this one is scary... Your pov is very interesting... He does not look happy at ALL!
I am happy that I do not have to worry about this sort of thing in our waters up here!

Tricia

hi hans, amazing looking creature captured well (i mean captured by your camera of course-lol!)
tfs,
scott

Not the most attractive of reptiles Hans but a real mean killing machine. Excellent POV, good colour and the patterns on the hide captured well. With the flooding Northern Australia experienced earlier this year a lot of crocodiles have relocated. A few attacks and some by reptiles measuring 5 metres. TFS,
David

Hi Hans,

With 120mm focal length, it's very close to him . .
Yes, it's ugly but you have showed a different perspective of this crock . . mostly is showing the whole or taken from the side . .
This image should be sent to Wikipedia or National Geographic magazine . .
Great shot my friend

Hi Hans, One of the best croc photos seen. It is worthy of National Geographic, i reckon. Tight crop and clarity make this spectacular nature composition. TFS, Murray.

Hello Hans !

I love your sense of Humour . And our Calamity too (^_^), Fortunately.

Not many women would be honored to receive such tribute (LOL).

You are right those tiny red eyes are indeed pretty irressistible. Cool POV by the way! If you used your 300mm focal, well it was not too dangerous . If you used the maco..... Hats Off ! (^_^)

A great timing to capture this fat head !
Congratulations!
Robert
