Watch cat...

Watch cat? Cat watch? While wandering through the narrow streets of the little village of Velsen i noticed this cat behind the window of a little white house. While approaching him he didn’t move but kept his ears in the upright position. Watching the scene I had to smile thinking at all the cat postings on TL. Now I will join the cat-club as well and I hope I’m welcome ;)

When I was a little boy we had a black and white cat named Joepie [Translator: Yupi] one of the things i remembered was that this stupid beast always missing was before the night and my father went outside, (probably sent by my mother :) yelling through the street Joepie, Joepie, Joepie! Here in Holland there is a comedian with the name Youp van ‘t Hek (first name pronounced as Joep) and my father disliked this comedian very much for sure because his name.

Anyhow i am not a cat hater nor a cat lover but to make hundreds of cat-pictures, no, that’s not my cup of tea! Regarding this cat in the position he was behind the glass I made an exception. If you look closely you see the Green Baron reflecting in the panes.

This posting is a little eye wink to all the cat lovers at TL like: Claudine, Pierre, Lili, Anna, Diana, Sylvain, Linda, Shelby, and all the others which I forgot to mention here. And I realize Janneke and Sweety might ignore this posting :)

Cat

The cat is a small carnivorous mammal. It is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to destroy vermin. A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. Intelligent, the cat can be trained to obey simple commands, and has been known to teach itself to manipulate simple mechanisms.
The trinomial name of the domestic cat is Felis silvestris catus. Its closest pre-domesticated ancestor is believed to be the African wild cat.

Cats have lived in close association with humans for at least 9,500 years. The Egyptians believed that slim cats brought good luck. Legends and myths about the cat exist in many cultures, from the ancient Egyptians and Chinese to the Vikings. They have been both revered and vilified by different cultures. Cats use more than one hundred vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including mewing, purring, hissing, growling, chirping, clicking, and grunting. Cats have even been observed mimicking the calls of birds. Like horses and other domesticated animals, cats can sometimes become feral, living effectively in the wild. Feral cats will often form small feral cat colonies when the food supply can support several cats in a concentrated area. Animal welfare organizations note that few abandoned cats are able to survive long enough to become feral, most being killed by vehicles, or succumbing to starvation, predators, exposure, or disease. Hi Hans

I like the division of the frame into 12 squares, & the self portrait reflection. The cat is a little soft, but no great drama. Tfs!

Hey Hans, I'm a cat’s lover too and you forgot me :((( Just kidding. I love cats as I think they are very special and mysterious creatures. Mines are like babies that need attention and they are very nice even if they go outside and are real killers :)

This is an interesting capture of this house cat. Those guys don't go outside and I don't really like this specie for that but this is another story... I like this reflection in the window and I also like this POV and composition. This is a different post from you :) Thanks,
Claudine

Hans,

Briliant! I LOVE cats, I have 4. There is always some funny thing they are doing! Nice shot through the window Hans!
B-)
Linda

Hi Hans,

Thanks for the note.

All the best,
Ioana

Hi Hans,
I like your crop on this one.. The cat looks very serious... great reflection!
Tricia

Hello Hans, nice image of you and the cat :)

I like very much the composition made of the window and the tree on the right hand side.

Nice tones here, almost monochromatic.

Take care, Yan :)

Hello Hans,
Great eye-- great setting and a well composed photo. I like how you've captured both the inside and the outside- as well as Mr. Siamese staring at you. Keeping the tree in the photo was a nice touch !! Well done and TFS Julie

This is delightful! One photo of two cool cats! The composition works very well and the minimalist colour allows the cats to speak for themselves.
Very amusing posting! TFS
Silke

Well we sure won't ignore it. Lovely capture. Very sharp and clear.
And welcome to the Cat Club. Where you become a slave to their simplest desires. They got you hooked now :-)
TFS.

Hi Hans. I have just made another coffee and saw one of our cats sitting in the kitchen window being driven insane by the awakening birds. A lovely image. Windows of any sort often make an attarctive subject and the addition of the cat and your reflection made it more so. TFS,
David

Janneke....Ha....ha....ha...HATSJEEEEEEE!!!

Hi Hans,
A nice reflection of you in the windows photoing this cat. I'll bet you did not see that until it was on the computer. A nice composition. Subtle colors, almost a B&W. Good detail throughout.

Hi Hans,
The cat in the window, so-so. Your reflection while taking that shot, two thumbs up ! The tree on the right side, nice composition. The contrast between the saturated colours of the window and the white of the house is great and the vertical lettering is eye's catching. This is a real good presentation and composition !

Oh, he looks like a Siamese with his triangle-shaped face and ears!! And we can see you too in the window Hans. So you've joined the cat club have you - I must look around for one of my cat one day - she's a Burmese cat...
Once again your notes are so interesting. I know Egypt had a real thing about cats - and as you know, Sweety doesn't like them.
Thanks Hans,
Janice
