This owl and the man that was holding him underneath the roof of a white tent in the garden of the castle "Het Muiderslot" were both in training.
Although very alert, this owl had the sweetest disposition one can imagine in such a wild animal and both our grandsons were allowed to ever so carefully stroke his feathers, meaning that I was allowed to make pictures standing very close. It seemed wise to me to start standing back and then ever so slowly approach sothat he could get used to me, which he did.
And while outside the wind raged and the rain fell, inside we enjoyed a very special moment on my husbands birthday and the grandsons will remember this for a long time.

Because of the bad weather I have chosen 400 ISO - could not very well flash in front of his sensitive eyes. Focal length of 60 mm and camera set on A priority sothat the shuttertime was chosen by my camera to let in enough light in this situation, because I am not yet advanced enough to judge exactly how much light is needed and I had a limited amount of time here.

Hope you enjoy this beauty as much as we all did.

Stay happy and healthy and enjoy nature's beauty.

Els

PS: Pablo observed the white in the BG - but that is not the sky, but the white canvas/cotton tent roof amd the reason I left it as is, instead of cloning the walls into the white part............I think it provided the most beautiful light on the owl.

Hello Els,
Beautifully captured bird. I tried making some shots of the owl during my recent trip to a zoo, but non turn out as good at this. And I did have trouble to have trying to have capture the best look on its eyes, equipped with only the kit lens, shifting from an auto mode to the P mode and etc (I'm still in the experimental process, you see)After a few failed attempts, I went shooting other pictures.
Nevertheless, this is a wonderful shot and I love the very sharp details of the feathers. Great portrait of the owl. Love it.

Best regards,
Sharina

Hu Els :)I think you've done perfect job!!:)This picture is amazing :)

Hi Els
The bird of wisdom held by Athina in antiquity. A very clear capture with very good sharpness and strong vivid colors

Hello Els,
This is a great portrait of the owl!
Excellent details in the plumage and a fine pose, and that stare is very strong...
A well composed presentation, a small small minus we can see some of the sky!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Goede Morgen Els.
Very good capture of the Owl, pity one hair is crossing his eye, but that shows how sharp this picture was taken.
Good job, Elly.
ps. Ik heb een paar fotos met een eagle op mijn arm, niks geen ketting aan hem.
Ik zal hem even 'aanmaken' en zet hem op jouw workshop.
By jou kijken ze meer dan bij mij, toch ? haha
Groeten van Jan

Hiya Els

What an amazing shot here, razor sharp with fantastic colour and texture, i feel i could reach into the screen and tickle his nose.. hmm i wonder if he would bite :-)

TFS regards Helen

Hello Els,

This is a fine shot of the owl!
The most captivating part is the amber eye which is so large and with an interesting reflection! Then the eyes move to the beak - a formidable tool! The details, both colour and texture, of the plummage are excellent.

I think your crop, just focussing on the head was a good choice. And, you have framed it perfectly.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Els,
Wow What a handsome specimen you have here. Brilliant details and sharpness to this nocturnal hunter. I would not want to be a mouse caught in the range of those intense eyes. Beautiful nature shot.

hi, great shot!, v nice composition of the owl looking at the distance. great sharpness ,details and colors

Hi Els:
You are turning into an accomplished portrait photographer. This has such clarity, focus and lighting that it looks 3dimensional,I bet if you zoomed in on the eye you could see yourself taking the photo... well done Els a beautiful shot.....Roman:0)

Gr.,
Anneke

Superb Els! Excellent feather colour and detail and well composed. Lovely catch light in the eye and teh white not at all disturbing. A regal looking bird! TFS,

Great capture in the daytime of a nocturnal creature. Wonderful view of the eyes and such a clear image overall.
It may be that the "bad weather" helped here by holding down the harsh sunlight and, instead, giving a gentle glow to this shot.
Whatever the case, very nice work.
TFS,
Wilt
