Sailing: "people at work"

Last Thursday I went sailing with my colleagues on the Markermeer with a wonderful two mast sail ship named the "Waterwolf".

Well while I was at on duty (making pictures) my colleague Ton helped with raising the jib sail and catched his up looking face between the ropes.

I had both Nikons with me, the D300 and my good ol' D70s, the last one equipped with the Sigma 70-300 zoom, took this picture with the D70s.

PP work: shot in RAW, small adjustment of brightness and contrast, small crop (leveled horizon :-) and resized.

Hi Hans

A good entry in the 'People at Work' Friday theme, & thanks for joining in the fun. Superb use of a shallow dof, with an excellent glimpse of the man looking up, through the blurred ropes. Tfs!

Hi Hans, Good example of how breaking the rules can work. Your clearity of the face and off focus of the ropes make it an unusual and compelling image. Well presented. TFS. Murray.

Hi Hans,

Very good contribution to the people at work theme. I like how you've shot this through the lines, with sharp focus on your friend. You captured him at a perfect moment. TFS

What a wonderful capture.
Very alive; love it !

thanks,
v

Very inventive use of fore-and background elements combined, the way the ropes divide his face into parallel segments is unique and striking.

Possibly could've moved fractionally so that his eye was more visible between the ropes, although I can tell this would've been a very challenging shot to take!

Rew

an interesting choice with these ropes creatively added to the shot, the dof makes it sing, nice,
hope all is well,
scott

Hallo hans,

Mooi, heel mooi.

groetjes, willemien

Good one Hans.
You have focused really well on your friend - love the look through the ropes...
Very well done
Janice

Hello,
Very nice shot vith excellent POV and details.TFS.

Best wishes,
Achim

Hoi Hans,
Groeten,
Niek

Bonjour Hans,

Sailing, is work or leisure? Even as a leisure, I can beleive you sometime have to work really hard. Interesting composition. Cable in front of his face, reduce the portait effect and define the nature of his work. TFS
