Photographed in the butterfly house.
Heliconius cydno is a nymphalid butterfly commonly known as the Cydno Longwing that ranges from Mexico to northern South America.
Heliconius comprise a colorful and widespread brush-footed butterfly genus distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the New World. These butterflies utilize Passion flower plants as their larval food source and rely on bright wing color patterns to signal their distasteful to potential predators (aposematism). Heliconius butterflies have been a subject of many studies due to their abundance and relative ease in breeding under laboratory conditions, as well as due to the extensive mimicry that occurs in this group. Studying this model group is helping scientists to understand how species are formed and why they are so diverse. They are usually unpalatable and are models for Müllerian mimicry by unrelated butterflies. Hybrid speciation has been found to occur in this genus.

Hi Siegfried,
Terrific sharpness, the focus looks very precise too. Nice idea to go with the vertical crop, and to leave some room up the top. My only complaint here would be with the background grain, other than that it looks excellent.

Great macro capture of the beautiful butterfly with such nice harmony of colors and textures! The colors and POV are perfect with great sharpness. There exists a great contrast between the colors of the subject and the green colored leaf.

Beautiful macro, loved the b/g contrast with the colorful butterfly.
Since u've nor shared the Exif data i can't figure out the ISO u've used here, there is quite visible noise in the b/g...

The wing/feather of the butterfly is much sharper the the eyes area, may be its intentional?
