[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My wife and I are thinking of doing a professional photo shoot with our newly born daughter Floortje. After seeing some example pictures I first tried a similar set-up at home. Here is the result of my first attempt. We had a dark cloth as background and I was using the SB-800 in wireless mode from the right and the on-board flash of the camera as a small fill in flash. I put all in manual mode: shutter speed in this case was not relevant, f/9 for a reasonable DOF and I played around with the flash power to get the right exposure. The rest was done in PP, little cropping and little levels adjustments to get the exposure/contrast just right. I already see that for next time I should make the fill-in flash stronger to get rid of the hard shadows, but overall I was pleased with the result.

Hi Pedro,
Van harte gefeliciteerd met je prachtige dochter!
You captured your daughter hugged by it's mother very well. Perfect natural skin tones, and the blue eyes of Floortje are a superb detail! Her dark dres and dark background really enhences the mother and baby! Maybe a bit tighter crop to get rid of the "empty" top side, might improve the image even more. Anyway a great photo my friend!

Hi Pedro,
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter Floortje she is beautiful. I like the natural looking skin tones and the way your wife is holding your precious daughter. Your wife’s dress blends nicely into the BG adding interest to the shot. I do agree with your note maybe a little stronger fill flash next time. This is still a fine post Pedro. I know you will enjoy your daughter for many years to come.

Experiment geslaagd Pedro ! Zou ook eens moeten beginnen te experimenteren met zulke flashopstelling.
Gewoon een " misschien " : eventueel een reflectiescherm ( een wit laken ? ) links zetten
om strooilicht van de SB-800 terug op het onderwerp te gooien ?

Heb één " but " : de uitsnede.
Voor mij mag er gerust een flinke reep langs de bovenkant weg, zelfs het mes in een deel van
vrouwlief d'er haar. ( fotowise :-) )
Ik ziet hier wat met m'n schuifbar te slepen en dat geeft, IMO, een krachtiger effect.

Inkaderen en ophangen zou ik zeggen :-)

Als je Jan laat doen, dan knipt ie alles weg, Pedro... al heeft hij deels gelijk; ik zou er zeker een centimetertje langs boven afknippen, maar zeker niet door je vrouw haar hoofd. Er zit behoorlijk wat "blote huid" in deze foto, en toch zie ik nergens blow-outs. Dus het belichtingsniveau is perfect, wat mij betreft. Een reflectiescherm zou, zoals Jan al opmerkte, helpen om de schaduw -die vooral op haar kin en nek nogal stoort- op te heffen. Niet eens zo duur, en ook in open-air shots héél handig, als je een assistent(e) hebt tenminste ;o). Boven Floortje's linkerknie zit er een storende heldere pixel, die zou ik zeker wegclonen als, euh nee, wanneer je dit portret print en aan de muur hangt!
