A voyage in time....

Back in 1978 I was working as an apprentice officer on board an old cargo ship, the MV Caron PE.
The ship was owned by Canadian interests but registered on a convenience Liberian flag. Therefore we were a bunch of crew members from fifteen different countries. A little International community.

I worked on this ship seven months. I was fortunate enough to visit European an North African ports during that period such as Nantes, France , Ghent, Belgium and Algiers .

As we were not making too much money those days, and we had to keep our savings to pay for our studies back at the Nautical school for the next sessions, we used to walk a lot when we were in port.

But it was great , as it gave me the opportunity to see local daily life. Fortunately these days, most places were safe to walk day or night.

Here we were in Rotterdam. Do not ask me were I took this one exactly. As far as I remember It it somewhere between the EurosMast and Centrum. Perhaps maybe somebody can confirm that....

I loved to take long walks in cities. We had to take every opportunities to leave the ship and have contacts with the exterior world, as we never knew where we would end up after. In fact after Rotterdam , we loaded in Ghent for Algeria. In Algeria , we waited forty five days at the anchorage before finally going alongside.

Now technically:
Image scanned from 35mm print.
Corrected some imperfections , dots and bugs...
Adjusted colors, contrasts, levels.
Added frame.

Finally: Too bad we did not have Digital cameras then. I would have taken much more photos.... and if Trek Lens whould have existed then, perhaps I would have met some Trekkers...
like John Tulip, Rinie Hoff , Hans Stellingwerf , Pieter janssen , Viaviane Faguay , Jaap Polak , Hendrik Boot, Don Wallensteijn , Frans de Kleijn , Rob de Jong .

Enjoy the second week of the Olympic Games !
So far so good!

Hi Rob,

Great photo considering the date you took it. The colours look warm and vivid and the natural sun light is fantastic. Maybe you should ask the other TL members (e.g. John Tulip...) to tell us where this place is. Well done on the composition and TFS :)
Constantinos

nothing much has changed so to see, the suburbs, YES, HYPER MODERN buildings, but Amsterdam is still very much (well preserved) Amsterdam, thanx, M, (*_*)

Bonjour Robert,
Bravo! Annie

Before I read your note, I thought 'looks like the seventies'. great daily life shot, a very busy street, lots going on. Love it.

I think we all wish we had changed over to Digital cameras many years earlier. I should look up some old photos and scan them one day.
Good scene of the street Robert, and the cars are way different too. Yes, very 1970's...
Janice
