Penance...
So today I did a penance for my TL-screw up posting from yesterday. In the early Sunday morning. I went out for a photo shoot in the harbour of IJmuiden. So perryhooter and captainsgirl watch the GreenBaron TL-account closely the coming days; I’ve got some surprises :)
The sun was shining brightly and when I arrived at the docks it wasn’t busy at all than I realized it was a Sunday and most of the fisherman aren’t busy but at least a lot of ships in the docks but not much activity on the water. Thus I went to the end of the pier near the yachts harbour. The coming days I will post some shots I made from the docks and locks in IJmuiden, but today the tower of the nice little church in Velsen. This village was cut in two due the digging of the Noordzee canal (from Amsterdam to the North sea at IJmuiden), now this town consists out of Velsen-Noord (North) and Velsen Zuid (South). I never have realized this very little part of Velsen-Zuid had such beautiful nice village view (also I will post some of those views the coming days). While wandering trough the narrow streets of this town the tower of the church was ‘attacked’ by a flock of crows. Several nests were visible in the bell openings in the tower. Also those birds are completely screwed up by the high temperatures and they must think it’s spring! One of the crows is even sitting on the weather-cock on top of the tower. (refer WS)
Anyhow, by posting this photo of the church tower of Velsen I did my penance [I hope] for my poor posting of yesterday ;) Check the Wikipedia link below to get more info about Velsen and the North Sea Canal. Have fun!
The North Sea Canal
Or Noordzeekanaal is a Dutch ship canal from Amsterdam to the North Sea at IJmuiden, constructed between 1865 and 1876 to enable seafaring vessels to reach the port of Amsterdam. It ends at Amsterdam in the closed-off IJ bay, which in turn connects to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal.
Road tunnels, from east to west:
Zeeburger Tunnel and Zeeburger Bridge
Zuiderzeeweg
IJ Tunnel
Coen Tunnel
Wijker Tunnel
Velser Tunnel
In Amsterdam there are several across the IJ; at least one is frequent, operating 24 hours a day, free of charge. There are four locks, of various sizes at the North Sea mouth of the canal.
Velsen
Velsen
Velsen is a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is located on both sides of the North Sea Canal. On the North side of the North Sea Canal, in Velsen-Noord, there is a major steel plant, Corus Strip Products IJmuiden, formerly known as Koninklijke Hoogovens. To the south is the beach of Bloemendaal aan Zee. (Text Wikipedia) |

Excellent compo and framing, I like the old tower beautifully framed by the tree branches and those birds. Very nice colours, great clarity.

where there's a tower... there are birds, that's the observation I love in this image, thanx, Hans, M, (*_*)
Hi Hans,
A beautiful photo! I like the way the trees are in the foreground! It's like they hide this tower! Nice lighting and POV!
Well done

Hello Hans,
A very nice, moody shot. Excellent sharp capture of the birds flitting about, and nice use of natural framing. I'm jealous of your blue sky, absent when I was shooting "St. Thomas' Parish Church Belltower.
Take care,
Karen
