Snow in Spaarndam…..

Last Thursday during my roundtrip in the snowfall I went also again to Spaarndam to shoot some ‘nostalgic’ pictures. This is one of them.

Yes I aged this picture. Thanks to Anneke Reis (Ejtaan) who gave me the software for a Photoshop filter plug-in. Thanks Anneke it’s really fun to play around with this feature!
This picture remembers me at the photo album of my grandparents I believe there were no more than about twenty pictures in it but all sepia tone. My grandparents lived in Alphen aan den Rijn and yes they had a very small house situated at the border of the river Rhine. My grandfather was a klompenmaker (clog maker) and he also had a ferry which was in fact a rowing boat. On the opposite site of the river there was a bell and when rang the person (mostly farmers) would be brought to the other bank. Those were old times and give me a smile when I look at this picture of Spaarndam, from which I posted a few other photos here on TL, I also get memories of the drawings of a famous Dutch graphic artist Anton Pieck.

Anyhow, I hope you like this experiment too. Please let me know what your opinion is. In the WS you will find the original photo.

PS-talk:
- cropped original picture
- used aging filter (filters unlimited 2.0)
- framed with the same filter program

Anton Pieck

Anton Franciscus Pieck (Den Helder, Netherlands, April 19th 1895 - Overveen, Netherlands November 25th 1987) was a Dutch painter, artist and graphic artist.
Anton Pieck was a drawing teacher from 1920 until 1960 in the Dutch city of Bloemendaal. The drawings he made had his very own style, often with a nostalgic and fairy-tale-like character; these show he had great imagination and an eye for detail. His illustrations became very popular. These characteristic drawings can still be found regularly on birth announcement cards and calendars.

Anton Pieck is also the designer of the original fairy-tale park Efteling in Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands, which has developed into one of the most important theme parks of the Netherlands, and which has much fame in the rest of Europe.
In the 2004 election of De Grootste Nederlander (The Greatest Dutchman) he came in on the 81th place. (Text Wikipedia.com)

Hello Hans,
What a lovely winter scene. The pp treatment is effective and resulted in a pleasing image. Hope to take some winter photos in a few days as they are predicting a major snow storm in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. Cheers! Danilo

Great pp work! It really looks like an old photograph! Especially with the little black dots on it which create some imperfections that we used to see a lot back in the nineteen thirties! Beautiful frame! Well done!
Michel

Wonderful PP work done here.
Starting with a very good capture.
I like the dust that has been added to the photo.

Hi Hans

A small pity for the black dustmarks, but still a superb upload, with a marvellous sepia tint to hint at the age, & a good capture of the falling snow, which is not so easy to do. Tfs!

Hi Hans!
I'm so glad you like this filter! You take great use of it too!
As always you've posted a very nice pic with a great atmosphere here!

Cheers mate!
Anneke

Ciao Hans, great pp work, amico mio, it seems a photo of one hundred years ago, wonderful composition with lovely buildings, great tree and snow, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Hans,
Great image! Lovely building and I like the falling snow! Great PP work, the ageing process worked really well! Wonderfull image and great notes as always!
TFS Cheers Tina :-)

Hello dear Hans, it really looks like and old picture and the building too, we couldn't tell! Very well done. I like the sepia tone and the white scalloped border and the black spots all around.

I like also to see the snow falling.

Great work! Take care, Yan!

Ps: many thx for your crit and visit in "Golden Retriever Playing in the Snow (2)" :)

Well first I must say it is very difficult to have a more complete and informative note ! You are the best for that!

That being said . I love the filter you used here. I would simply recommend you next time to use correct the perspective a bit . Itf the left side of the photo is OK, the right side could be strechted a bit to the right to straightened the building and city light.

Great job!
Robert

Now this looks like an old photo in my grannies photo album! Great pp work Hans! it really DOES look old!
B-)

Hi Hans,

Amazing work my friend! The resulting image is truly, like a very old shot! I saw the original in your WS and it is nice, but your decision to convert it was wise!
TFS,
Vassilis

Hoi Hans,
Groeten,
Niek

Mooie sfeer foto!

Groetjes Jan

I love this conversion! It is a wonderfully timeless shot and only the hint of a car on the right gives the game away
Great capture

Hello Hans,
light dusting of snow ;-). We are getting dumped on today so far at least 25 cm since about 12 O' clock. Wonderful composition, I do like the vintage feel here. Not only the sepia tones but also the wonderful frame brings that out.
