[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A few weeks ago Hitbit posted this photo The Cathedral II. I mentioned that it was on my list to photograph. So yesterday was the time to visit the old radio tower. When I arrived at the gate, I saw two people walk by the 'No Trespassing sign. I followed and immediately noticed that these two people were working at the site. I asked if it I could take a few photos of the building from up close. They mentioned that it was not a problem at all. But, before I was able to get my camera out of my backpack they asked me if I would like to take photos from the inside as well. You have to know that this building is closed for the public, except from a few organised excursions, so I felt really privelaged to get this opportunity. He did however mention that an excusion would start and that there was a student photographer in the building as well. Eventually I had about 15 minutes of photography time without anybody entering my shot.

This is a photo from the entrance hall of building A, the main radio tower.

Some information about Radio Kootwijk that I used from www.radiokootwijk.com the official site of Radio Kootwijk.

The former radio station “Radio Kootwijk” is situated in the heart of the “Veluwe” centred in a wonderful natural reserve area. It is a unique establishment that is highly valued for its typical blend of scenery with cultural-historical and industrial-historical characteristics.

During WWI, an independent radio link with the Dutch Indies (former Indonesia) became increasingly important. For example all messages via the sea cable, were censured by the British during the war. The obtain independence in these communications, a large transmitter station was built in 1917, in the Malabar Gorge near Bandung on the island of Java. For the Dutch counterpart of this radio link, a suitable location was found on the sand dunes near the village of Kootwijk. Architect Luthmann made a complete design for this establishment. In 1920 the construction started for the actual transmitter building, which is entirely constructed from armoured concrete, a novelty in those days.

Some tech talk about this photo. It may look like the photo is tilted to the right, but it isn't. Due to my low POV and the wide angle lens all horizontal lines show a high degree of distortion. From pincusion to barrel. This is something I like and I don't want to fix. I do agree that a little more symmetry would be better.

One last note. I am still very limited in my time. I hope however to have some spare time this evening and during the rest of the week. I feel guilty by posting a photo but not have time to critique. I think they go together.

I like the light and colours of this huge and empty geometry.
Strange mix of cold and warm.

Hoi Niek,
Heel bijzonder, geeft een jaren 20 'gevoel'. Prachtig dat zachte gele licht. Perfect perspectief, kortom zeer inspirerende foto. Je heb maar geluk dat je de gelegenheid kreeg (nam :) om Kootwijk aan de binnenzijde te fotograveren. Moeten dit voorjaar(?) maar eens een TL-meet organiseren.

Hi Niek

This is great as well, the building has a real Art Deco look to it. I love the strong lines. Great capture, you were really lucky to have your own private session in this building
