[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the second photo of building A of Radio Kootwijk. The building that is more familiar by its nickname The Cathedral.

In the month of March the foundation for preservation of Radio Kootwijk has planned a few guided tours through the building. I did not sign up for such a tour but due to some luck I was allowed to enter the building 15 minutes before the tour would start. Enough time for me to take some photos. I did have to share the time with a student photographer.

Some additional information on Radio Kootwijk:

The State owned Postal and Telegraph company (PTT) began utilising Radio Kootwijk in 1923 for long wave telegraph transmissions. The equipment was installed in Building A, which is also dubbed as “The Cathedral”. Within about five years, short wave radio signals were used for these transmissions because these were less vulnerable to atmospheric noise. The first actual radio communication with the Dutch Indies, started in 1928, with the historical words: “Hello Bandung, here Kootwijk”. These historical words. are still iconic for many Dutchmen nowadays.

After WWII, the gradually improving quality of sea cable connections saw a decline in the role of Radio Kootwijk as cornerstone for intercontinental telephone and telegraph communications. From 1970, Radio Kootwijk supported maritime communications for the “Radio Scheveningen” station, in particular for long-distance communication with vessels at large. Because of later technological developments such as satellite communication, Radio Kootwijk further lost its significance. Transmission stopped entirely in 1998.

I wasn't allowed to see the entire building since there are people living inside it. This is called 'Anti kraak' (anti break-in)

Hello Niek,
Attractive interior!
Good light and fine details, well framed...
Probably a bit difficult exposure with the big window, but well done and the diagonal light pattern is attractive!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hoi Niek,
Dit is ook weer een hele mooie van de 'Cathedral' het licht is prachtig, en het mozaiek op de vloer spreekt zeer tot de verbeelding. Echt Art Deco stijl. Top fotoi man!

Hi Niek,
Interesting shot you've made here! I had to look at it a couple of minutes to see what aspects make the picture powerful i.m.o.
The lines on the floor make a sort of basis, together with the stairs. The light and the shape of the iron ceiling-things (what are they?) sort of play around with that basis, and that makes it nice!

Perfect composition, very abstract.
TalFS!

Mooi recht werk; daar houd ik van zoals je weet. Je zou de raamhoutjes nog wat harder kunnen maken.
