Also hunting the lightning! Great nocturnal one with not obly the spectacular lighting in the purple clouds but also the nice lights of the building. Perfect capture my friend. And thanks for the tips, I think I'm going to buy a remote control for my Nikon as well.

Hello, Niek,
This seems to be a very difficult image to be photographed, the sky is very dramatic with very vivid bright colours. Pity that the lady was hit by a lightning.
In my opinion the composition is good, with good use of night lights.

Really Stunning photography, Niek.
Excellent evening picture with the Lighting so clear visual in the sky.
The streetlights around that school? building, makes it a perfect looking photo.

A very good capture, Niek. Overall exposure is spot on. Capturing lightnings involves a great deal of luck, but the tech bit was all up to you and you managed well.

Good nigh shot with nicely captured lightning.
IMHO the strong light left of tower should be cloned out cause it took to much attention from everything else.

Hello Niek,
This is a very moody capture, where you capture the essence of the threatning weather very well!
In particular I like the exposure of the lighting, and it is like the houses on the ground just sits there waiting for what may come!

Have you heard the old age "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?" Maybe the photgrapher's version should be When life gives you thunderstorms, take pictures! It's nice to see you go after an "action" shot like this. It's a wonderful result. You didn't have too close a view, but you did a good job framing the lighting in the building. The hard part was getting the exposures to work, and you did an excellent job with that. Incredible clarity with the plastic bag (or maybe you didn't cover the lens with it).

Niek,
When I opened this thumbnail my wife was looking over my shoulder and she "gasped". She said "Now that's a great shot" and I fully agreed with her. Thunderstorms called for today here....I might try for the fireworks/lightning combo! :)
I think this is a VERY nice image.....lots of detail in the lightning and clouds which make me keep staring at it instead of your house!
Well done....instead of smiles, how about two gasps?

Nice shot! How many photos did you have to take before you got this shot with the lightning in it? And what does shutter speed priority mean? I really want to get a DSLR... I just have to save money first. :)

Anyhow, I like the picture. The lights on the buildings and the clouds above them are beautiful!
