[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At last we had a decent amount of snow in Holland, and I went out to shoot it because a layer of snow does a very good transformation job on your daily surroundings. Everything gets a new dimension and …….the photographers with a penchant for graphism feel like heaven because of the new shooting possibilities .

Displayed here is a simple scene, it’s a shot of the broad stairs next to the giant ‘The Bow’ monument , close to the northern ramp of the Erasmusbridge in Rotterdam. The elementary sculpted pylons circle this monument and look a bit like stylized people marching to the stairs.
A couple of the pictutes I made during my snow shoot, are brought together in a small series called ‘graphic snow’, which can be seen here.

PCS-tech: cropped, desaturated , adjusted levels (the whole pic and the snow separately), curves, USM-ed, frame added & saved for the web

Interesting work, Bert !
Like if these strange "persons" (like penguins) are walking in the snow in order ...
A very imaginative composition and I like too the stairs covered by the snow making black and white lines ...
Congrats.
Sylvie

i like ur square cropping and ur decent composition of the 6 sculptures.it makes me feel that they are just in the right positions. they (all with a patch of snow on the same direction) just resemble each other which adds harmony to the whole atmosphere. the black and white frame is in harmony with the black and white scene too. TFS! greetings, selina

When simplicity make a great image...
this remember me a music stave and the pylons are the notes waiting to compose a music....
well done
Paolo

Mooie foto met een prima contrast! Mooie compositie ook, goed werk! :-)

Hallo Bert,
Het is maar goed dat we zoveel foto's hebben kunnen maken, want statistisch moeten we zeker 25 jaar wachten op het volgende pak sneeuw van deze omvang ( en dan heb ik het broeikaseffect nog niet mee gerekend).
groetjes Rob

I like the way the posts lead to the snow covered steps. the B&W makes a good contrast in this shot. NIce work TFS

Hi Bert,
This is a very strong composition. Frozen motion in the snow. I love the snow on the stairs.

Lines and curves..B/W...very well seen Bert , how a winter detail can bring out this effect ..amazing isn't it ?..very good use of the contrast here Bert and excellent composition !

wanted to come back to comment on this one too Bert :) again a really superb job! wonderfully graphic with a great variety of contrasting lines and shapes.. the composition is perfect and the whole image so pleasing to the eye! an ordinary daily scene turned into something beautiful.. hope to be seeing more posts from you soon! ^_^ - Ayda

i took a look at your graphic snow, and they´re fantastic!
it´s unbelievable the way the snow changes our point of view towards things...
excellent, Bert, as ususally!

A very nice one Bert, very well done. I love your b&w. I check on Pbase your pictures, very very nice. I like it a lot.
Best regards
Guy

Hi Bert,
How good is to see this photo! First of all it's a superb composition, secondly I'm curiously waiting for winter. The last one here in Hungary wasn't worth mentioning, almost no snow at all, not even in the mountains, meanwhile I've seen on TV snow suffocates the States and Canada...
Imaginative minimalistic photo which I like quite a lot. Tfs. Regards, László
