[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Took this picture somewhere at the Atlantic ocean, travelling as a passenger on this cargo vessel. The colours on the original where very dull and lacked contrast, due to the poor light on this stormy day. So started to play around with contrast, colours, sharpening etc. untill the picture got some 'bite', and reflected in my opinion the conditions of that moment. However didn't like the resulting unnatural tones of blue too much, so converted it to B & W. Challenges I encountered where to keep the horizon level (the ship wasn't exactly a nice stable platform at that time) and to catch the right wave without loosing my balance.

Couldn't resist to work on the colors some more. Think the colors adds more depth to the picture.

moi, je n'aurais pas oser sortir mon appareil sous de telles conditions ! ;o)
Bravo !

Wow. you really captured the mood here. It looks scary. Nice job keeping it steady. The colors like fine. They actually add a lot to the photo. Nice job. JP

Ah !!!!!!!

Good memories coming back by looking at this photo. This photo was most likely taken from inside the wheelhouse ( or commonly call the bridge ).
As the ship was Rocking , Rolling , Pitching , all chairs on board must be well secured to the walls or floors , and cupboards and cabinets locked. Noisy days as every thing is moving in the drawers , stores. Nothing stands on tables if it is not well secured.

The sound of wind blowing added to the speed of the vessel is scary. Nobody is allowed on deck until further notice from the master.

People eating with their plates in their hands as even if the tablecloths are installed wet to avoid sliding , the food , soups or sauces would spill on the tables otherwise.
In the worst cases , only sandwiches were offered to avoid accidents.

Ah I loved it !

Thanks for bringing me back those unforgetable memories, with this great PS. The ambiance is there !
Cheers,
Robert

Very nice picture Paul, a good catch. I found the way the picture went out, it is perfect. We can feel more the storm, hear the wind, the rain in our face...
Best regards
Guy

This is a fantastic shot! You can feel the storm. The boat is in just the right place, the horizon level and the boat rocking away. Excellent!

Ahhhhh, like Robert, this photo brings back some MAD good memories of being at sea. I LOVED weather like this. The wind roaring, waves crashing, dodging hurricanes. This shot makes you feel THERE. I think you did a splendid job. I like the grayness and the whitecaps on the waves. Thanks for reminding me of something I once loved so. Kindest regards,
Shelly
