Today it is 200 years ago the Danish fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen was born in the city of Odense on the island of Fyn. As a student Danish, I have to celebrate this day too, so I took some books, put them on the Danish flag and took this picture.

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was the son of a poor shoemaker. It was his mother, who opened the world of folklore for him.
He is famous for his fairytales: Keiserens nye Klæder (The Emperor's new cloths), Den grimme Ælling (The ugly duckling), Prinsessen paa Ærten (The real princess) and of course Den lille Havfrue (The little mermaid) are just some examples of HCA's work.
He also loved traveling and has written a couple of books about his journeys like I Sverrig (In Sweden), I Spanien (In Spain) and En Digters Bazar (A Poet's Bazaar). In 1855 he wrote his autobiography Mit Livs Eventyr (The fairytale of my life), the quote above is the first sentence of this book.
His fairytales have been translated to many different languages, the Dutch version was translated by one of my teachers at the University of Amsterdam.

Hope you like my tribute to HCA!

hi Lars,
what a beautiful tribute to this superb writer that was/is H.C. Andersen in his 200 years birthday!
Well done!
Marisa

What a special tribute! I can't remember how many hours of pure delight I spent reading his works! Thanks for reminding us of the date Lars! I think you've composed the image very well.
I think HCA fairy tales will live forever and maybe in 200 years from now, someone on another TL like group will post an image like yours.
Well done Lars!
Ana

Nice compilation, Lars... I like the man's genius, his way with words, his ideas... my favourite is 'De nieuwe kleren van de keizer' ;o).
Concerning your compilation I'll just nit-pick away: the straight text is not consisted with the folded flag, and I notice some jaggies on the edges of the books.
Anyway, a nice tribute. TFS.

Another lovely tribute to a wonderfull story teller. The ugly duckling was one of my favorite stories as a child. I think all of us can see a bit of ourselfes in that story. Ther wer many other stories as well that he wrote, that was just wonderful. Really a great author to grove up with, as you do when being born and raised in Scandinavia. A very nie tribute.

Hallo Lars,
Goede compositie. Groet Rob

Thank you Lars, for paying a very beautiful tribute to the man. You really managed a fatastic collage with the flag and those books. Lovely colours, and nice texture to all material - a pro job as a studio photo.

Deense vlag.
Ene leerzame note, goed geheel !

Oh - a beautiful way to celebrate our great storywriter - He would have loved to see this and experienced the world og today - after all is the internet a kind of virtual travel.

Thanks Lars for the nice word and fine note as well - min næste post på TE vil være, "Kejserens nye klæder".

Hilsen Jeppe

LarZ,

Hi Lars, A nice tribute to the famous creative writer. His fairytales are so famous and welcome. I think that it is fair to say that every educated person may have read some of his fairytales.
A nice picture and a sharp image.

Leuke presentatie zo!
