What fun to see you posted one storey below me in the gallery today
I like the PP work you did here. The sky works nicely.
I think I would brighten the buildings a little more and add just a touch more contrast to them so that they have the same quality as the sky.
Very fine work

Hi John,
You improved effectively your skills with Photoshop, dear friend! The addition of this sky gives a fantastic look at this already beautiful place. IMHO, if you gave more space on the top of the central building, the image could be better.
Very good work! Annie

Hello John, your PP skills are certainly developing, the sky looks good. There is almost a feeling of 3-D in this shot, and I think that it is the sky that does it.I wouldn't have known about the building if you hadn't said.
The buildings give a good silhouette with their interesting shapes.
Tfs, regards Jean.
Hi John,

Hello John,
Very nice POV and love the PP done for the sky. (I'll try that technique on some photo with dull sky).
The sky compliments so well with the earthy tones of buildings.
Sharp and well composed photo. TFS

Yes why not John, such a beautiful place deserves a beautiful sky. Sometimes it helps to copy the picture and really lower the curves/gamma correction to make the sky darker and then place it back.
Seems to me that Zierikzee is the place to be judging from more pictures on TL.
Did you clone out people, cars, bikes and such?? Love it this way.
TFS

Hi John,
Beautiful result of your PP work! In my opinion, the sky past well with the rest of the photo. I like the vivid colours and the smooth effect of the entire photo which looks like a peinture. As Annie said, a little more sky in the upper side would be better.
And last but not least, I appreciate your "Sisyphean work" extending the house over the frame with a lot of copy/paste commands.
Have a nice evening,
Sorina
P.S.
I understand your feeling about learning PS, because I have the same one, not about this software, but learning the german language. :-)

(1865) - [2008-03-13 6:57]
What a wise choice I made to read your note! I like knowing when I'm right. For some reason I immediately thought the sky was copy/pasted. It just looks out of place since the buildings are so grey and it's obvious there was no blue sky or sunshine at the spot at the time. After all, the (amount of) light is always reflected on buildings and all other objects.
Why did you decide to bring in another sky anyway? Why not leave the original one?
Just an honest opinion (and question).

Clever Johnty - I only know the basics of PS CS2, and I think that's as far as I'll go.
BRAVO on your effort here - that sky looks real - for this photo I mean. Very good results and the building shows up well too.
Do you shoot in RAW John?

Your MAXIMA CULPA ? :-)
And mine, then?
I think you are good enough in photoshop...
Would you nicely teach me something about? ;-)
I have always agreed with the latin Orazio:
CARPE DIEM QUAM MINIMA CREDULA POSTERO! :-)
The lighting difference between the sky and place with buildings is a bit curious, but the final effect of the whole compo is fully satisfying.

Excellent scene and POV here John!
A great one to try replacing the sky with,
It has a very surreal quality as a result of this post processing.
Perhaps the lighting is a tad darker in the foreground subjects than one woudl expect with a sky like that,
but somehow that makes this all the more fun to see.
So great job!

Dear John,
When I read your note it reminded me of what I've been telling myself: all I need to do is buy Photoshop when I retire and I'll have plenty to do!
About the photo: It still needs some more work because the buildings are obviouly under different lighting. Given 20 years, I'm sure you'll get it done. :-))
BTW: I look forward to meeting you someday (we'll probably be staying/living in Brussels in the not too distant future).
