Ahhhhh grandchildren are so much fun. This little girl will be spending a lot of time infront of your lens. My suggestion is to try photographing her from the other side in this lighting situation - bright side closer to the camera. Focus on the eye on the bright side. Really like the colors and frame.

first of all congratulation on your new camera :D i have tried this while looking for a camera.. my preference is the DSLR 200. almost want to buy it but my bro bought me the H7.. so im going to use it first and come back later for the 200.

beautiful shot of Myriam again, Els.. love it.. so sweet and tender.. and she grow up more from the last shot.. can't see anything wrong in the eye.. even the bg is beautiful and focus light only to Myriam. the red is stunning.. i guess im one of the few who can't wait to see how your granddaughter look like in the months she grow :) (only open my email just now.. thank you so much for the lovely pictures of Myriam and your family)

She is a doll. I can see her very blonde hair coming out. Perfect color and texture of her skin. Her lips are beautiful. Too bad we can not see clearly her left eye. I can not give you advice on it, but I will be reading what suggestions you receive. Well framed. TFS

Als je dit pracht plaatje ziet gaan je ogen vanzelf wel open, toch ?
Wat een 'droppie' zou Meri zeggen. (Ze roept weer eens voor de koffie, maar ze moet eerst maar eens komen kijken, haha)
Myriam ziet al uit als het zonnetje wat hier zo heerlijk schijnt.

I like the light from the back giving the photo a very low key definition. The red arround her face gives good definition.
Only way to get both eyes in focus is a smaller aperture (but then you need a longer shutter and how do you keep a baby in the same position for a long time). Alternatively you can move further from her face which will give a greater dof because the object is further from the lens.

Ik denk dat gefeliciteerd wel op z'n plaats is. Met je kleindochter uiteraard maar vooral ook met dit pracht portret. Mooi belicht en fraai van compositie. Haar fonkelende blauwe ogen komen fraai tot hun recht. Mooi gedaan hoor!

Hoi Els, what a good use of light!!
Heb je die zwarte achtergrond er zelf bij gevoegd of had je echt een zwarte achtergrond. Het geeft een mooi effect! Die waterige oogjes zijn zo mooi!!

Ahhh how can it be any better?? Adorable! LOVE the softness here and the lighting is perfect! I assume ambient? Just the best! I have no idea how to make the babies eyes line up! HAHA! maybe a deeper DOF, achieve by pulling back on the zoom and stepping forward more. But there is no way at this angle to make the eyes line up...would be too weird! Our brains make up for that, I SEE that baby as it should be! Good shot Els!

Heel mooi met het silouette van de moeder(?), of in ieder geval iemand's silouette. Lekker zware donkere partijen zorgen voor een mooie balans met het kindje. En een mooi kindje is het!!
Ben je trouwens tevreden over je Alpha 350? Een vriend van me wil er eentje kopen, of anders een Nikon D80 - of de D90 die misschien in Juni uit gaat komen... Dus ik vroeg me af wat jouw ervaringen zijn over de Alpha 350!

Prachtlicht, Els... en ik vind de scherpte op het verste oog helemaal niet storend. Als je een grotere scherptediepte wilt zul je helaas je ISO moeten verhogen en een kleiner diafragma nemen, zoals f/8 of zo...
Een mooi kindje, ook. Als die kijkers zo blauw blijven zal binnen een jaartje of 15, 16, menig jongenshart wat sneller gaan slaan ;o))
Hé, heb je de Minolta ingeruild voor een α ? Niet slecht ;o)

Adorable. I agree with all the grandchildren statements, they're precious and special and a whole new world and experience.
As to suggestions, I don't know what You were going for here but this photo, as presented, has such a feeling of warmth and love that I wouldn't change a thing, if it were me.
Nicely visualized and presented.
The softness adds to the warmth and the lighting contributes, especially the red tones, to the displayed, and suggested, love.

Eigenlijk is dit een beetje oude-meester achtig schaduw gebruikiets wat zoveel mooier is dan de gewone vlakke heldere lichte foto.
Ik vind zelfs dat de linker kant van het gezichtje nog ietsje donkerdr had gemogen....
