[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was my first test shot with my Lee filter system taken on the edge of the Aekingerzand in Friesland.

The Aekingerzand, or Kale Duinen, is a very special area of natural beauty. Weather and wind can do what they like, here. The area has been restored in the last few years by the Dutch Forestry Commission. Trees and scrubs prevented the sand from shifting. This caused a characteristic landscape with several special animals, like the sand lizard and the comma butterfly, to slowly disappear. Now that many trees have been cut, the sand can shift again. The Aekingerzand lies in a beautifully varied area.

I did take the liberty to play a little with the photo. I've tried to give the sky a more blue-ish tone so that it would give more contrast with the grasses.

I used a 0.6 ND grad soft edge to balance the exposure

Hoi Niek,
Perfect PP on the sky! Great compossition, the difference in the hight of the trees makes it a well balanced composition. Fina natural soft colour tones.
Aantrekkelijk plaat Niels eeeh Niek :-)

I can see the wind in your picture Niek, indeed not much trees left to break that wind.
Your sky is not too much over the top, so it works.
Love those wide open places in Friesland and your pictures show that really well.

What is the Lee filter system supposed to do?

I do like the saturation, and I like the simplicity and starkness of the subject and composition.

Anneke

beautiful tones and colors niek :)
the contrast looks perfect, very well balanced exposure

An excellent result, and a good example of how less is more in landscapes (=smooth contrast, smooth transitions, modest saturation and sharpness). A technically superb image, in all aspects, and an attractive composition.

mooi gedaan Niek.

Niek I got the Lee filter system about a year ago and still haven't used it :-)

If this is the result it can help achieve will have to give it a shot.

Love the detail in this shot right from the bark of the try to that tremendous sky.

The ND grad certainly earned it's corn.

Composition really works well with the shot, love the odd shaped tree on the right.

All in all a cracking shot.

Peter
