| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
After many grey and uninspiring days, we finally had a good break in the weather. I decided to visit the National Park Denst-Friese Wold on the province border of Dente and Friesland. The national park is especially famous of its shifting sand.
After some strolling around in the lush sand I finally found a good spot to capture the essense of the area, meaning sand and heather. The sky helped me out a lot in the photo and with luck I was able to position myself in such a way that both sun and cloud patterns favorite my composition.
The Aekingerzand, or Kale Duinen, is a very special area of natural beauty. Weather and wind can do what they like, here. The area has been restored in the last few years by the Dutch Forestry Commission.Trees and scrubs prevented the sand from shifting. This caused a characteristic landscape with several special animals, like the sand lizard and the comma butterfly, to slowly disappear. Now that many trees have been cut, the sand can shift again. The Aekingerzand lies in a beautifully varied area. The Grenspoel, a fen at the edge of the shifting sands area Aekingerzand, is a little gem. Nearby is the brook valley of the Vledder Aa. Here, nature is also developing. Cultivation ditches have been filled in, contaminated soil has been taken away and the water finds its own route, once again. Slowly, plants and animals for whom brook valleys are their natural habitat, return.

A BIG Sky Niek, reminds me of Galveston alot, although it is in a state of destruction right now, it will come back! I like the way the clouds are, but wondering about drama (yes, I am a drama queen)....I might do a WS to see if I can add some emotion to the shot!
B-)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Linda
A superb fine art photo Niek.
Great contrasting soft colors between the earth tones and sky.
The effect of the clouds streaming above is perfect here.
Very simple and elegant image.
Nice work!

Hi Niek,
What a place, I could happily spend a few hours here.
That sky with the cloud formation racing towards you looks beautiful.
So you are to blame that I could not help myself, I had to play with your picture.
Niek, een veilig Oudjaar en de beste wensen voor 2009.

hi Niek,
Great composition - the diagonal with the grass (from lower left corner) is a nice touch.
Wide angle worked well.
Best regards, Daniel
