In the east of the Netherlands stones and trees were used to mark a border or crossing. The trees were called 'Kroezeboom'.

This very old Oak tree is a border marker between farmland on the top of an open field. (Fleringer Es) The trees were also considered a holy place and were used as a place for justice. This tree is accompanied by a Roman Catholic chapel. The tree is expected to be between 400 and 500 years old.

Yup, I've reached the 200 milestone.

In the last couple of weeks a major part of Europe have been living in very cold temperatures. I am sure that we Dutch are not experiencing the kind of temperatures eastern Europeans have, but its still a proper winter for us. In a more micro view, the eastern and southern part of my country recieved snow and transformed the country into a winter wonderland.

I've visited this place many times when I was yong and most recently in May when all the flowers were blooming. I knew I had to return this morning and capture it with the layer of snow and frost.

I've though about posting a black and white version, but opted for the color one. The B&W is in the workshop.

This is realy worth to be at this place - the motive is beautiful - and the white trees everywhere ... we also had the frost today and I also went out to make some shots - but you found a better place ;-)

Hi Niek,
well done this picture of the kroezeboom. You succeeded to make a nice and quiet shot. Too bad the picknicktabel is in the background. (little bit of PS??)

very scenic and colorful ...

So it is winter in your country too?

It looks like here in Quebec, Canada in november.

I really like the light in your photograph, and the white trees in the background. This tree is almost as old as my city, we celebrated 400 years anniversary last summer.

Well done
Jean

Hi Niek,
It's even a smaller chapel than mine. :):) Wonderful post for 200th. What a lovely small place. It has a really friendly and calm atmosphere and the sunny-snowy weather add even more mood to the image. White balance was well set, fantastic exposition of the nsow on the branches, enlightened by the sun. Great shot, congratulatons! TFS.
Greetings,
Kristof

Hi Niek
What a splendid photo to celebrate your 200th post!
This landscape is so appealing with this fairy lighting and frost ! The contrasts are perfect here! Even if your B&W version is great, I prefer the color one. When sun shines on snow, nothing better for revealing subtle nuance of white! You did so nicely, here! Interesting informations about stones and trees used to mark a border or crossing. More beautiful than other kind of fences!
Congratulations! Annie

Een prachtig plaatje met diezelfde mooie sneeuw op de bomen als op mijn foto. Prachtige kleuren met die blauwe lucht, de donkere takken, dat groene dak en die prachtige sneeuw!
Mooie compositie!

Well done!

Janneke

Anneke

Well done on this.

Wow Niek, That is a stunning winter scene. Perfect exposure and beautifully composed. The tree looks amazing with the white covering. The chapel adds additional interest to the scene.

Congratulations on meeting your 200th milestone!

Firstly congratulations on the 200th posting.
Now on to the picture - a superb winter scene. Really well exposed and I like the inclusion of the colour, especially the green on the roof of the building. Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing
