Hans and I decided to visit castle 'De Haar'. Probably one of the most beautiful castles I've seen in my life and certainly the most beautiful one in The Netherlands.

Although the castle wasn't at its best looking, a major restoration has been set up that will take at least one more year, the view from certain angles and especially from a reasonable distance is great. Our luck was that we had yet another wonderful day and the first signs of fall were visible.

For this result I had to do some work back home. In total it took me more then an hour. Actions that were taken include a correction for the lens distortion, the normally levels adjustment and the merge of two exposures. The latter was a painstaking job because I had to mask trees and the castle. I still think that certain spots could have received even more care. I did not add any saturation nor did I adjust colors in general. These are as they came out of the camera.

The two exposures were of course taken in the field using a 0.6 ND grad filter.

Hoi Niek,

Textbook composition and a good ratio of sky to land gives this shot pleasing proportions. I guess if I was going to do anything more to it, it would be a slight crop - without losing the composition - to eliminate the half-tree on the left and some of the negative space on the right.

The sunny fresh air atmosphere is especially appealing in this scene, creating an inviting Camelot impression. The cloud streaks lead the eye to the castle, and the jet trail suggests a carefully placed ribbon on the package. Excellent light quality and use of space in the composition, top to bottom, corner to corner. Well done:)

Hi Niek,

A marvelous capture with great view to the castle with outstanding architecture!
The colors of the castle are standing very well against the perfect blue of the sky. The sharpness and POV are perfect. The jet trail explaining its own story here. The water pond on the right lower corner of the picture, is lovely.

Very well seen work!

best regards,
Paras

Mooi gedaan, Niek!

Hi Niek

A superb 'big sky' shot, with the low horizon line well placed in the frame, & excellent sharpness & saturation. Have a great weekend!
