This is the lanscape on Svalbard.
The air is so thin and clear that one can see for miles ahead, creating an illusion of proximity. The sky ay this time of the year is always bright and blue even if pointed with grey clouds. But i almost never rains...
************************************************
Svalbard was discovered in 1596 when William Barents sailed north searching for a nearest passage to Asia. The expedition failed but the news about the abundance of wales and walruses ensured further expeditions.
The white stretches of ice btween the mountains are actully glacies. Those are very common formations in Svalbard. Some of them are considered Moraines, integral glaciers formed by ice and other materials in form of layers.
Also concerning this photo, it's interesting to point out the Permafrost phenomenon: everything over 100m above sea level is frost. During the summer season, the top most layes melts, allowing gorwing of vegetation. The frost cycle starts again with th coming winter...
The bigger island of Svalbard is Spitsbergen. This is a dry island, specialy in the middle. the rains vary from around 200mm in the dryiest part to around 800mm. It's almost an ice desert... In a good weatehr situation is possible to seea s far as 100 km far...

This is a "montage" of 4 photographs stitched together to forma a panorama.

Take care, everybody, Stef

Excellent Stefania
Super sharp and beautiful.
Thanks for sharing

Olá Stef,

Linda!!!Apetece estar lá a olhar a beleza natural desse lugar.
Fica bem,
bjs

Wonderful skyline! Horizon in the right spot...
Quite a refreshing photo during the hot summer days we have here...!

Critique: I still see stitch lines (at least two) in your photo, you may be able to remove them by wider cloning, with a large featheringfactor and some transparency.

Hi Stef
Amazing this looks like an oil painting! Great composition ans lovely vista. Water looks cold too!!

TFS
Regards
Chris

Hi Stefania

Asuperb, wide angled panoramic format that suits the subjject perfectly. I like the sombre coilor tones. Good stitching, & excellent lighting & sharpness. Well done!

Great scene with formidable clouds. You've done a great job with the stitching. Very impressive view on the large version.

Stef,

Breathtaking view. What a landscape.. Wow! I love panoramas and this one's a beauty. Great capture :-)

stunning landscape Stef.. those clouds are amazing! excellent stitching for this panorama.. love it :-))

sorry i'm a bit slow in critiquing and e-mailing lately dear.. just been really really tired.. but it's so great seeing this amazing place and i'm so glad you had the wonderful time you did! next trip you'll have to come and stay with me in my place in italy when i move :-)))

big polar bear hugs! (even when they don't show up.. they still give great hugs!)

Ayda

Oh mine...
you did make something breathtaking!I love the combination of the three colours here, it probably reflexes the atmoshere over there very well!
great job Stef!

What a wonderful shot! very suggestive and intersting cut!

Nice panoramic style capture, the image is very impressive and the sky is really great!
Bravo!!
Vassilis

This looks very beautiful, Stef!
Thinking of the North Pole I was wating a shot which had at least less contrast, with more whites... However your work proves the opposite. The format is very well chosen.
The sea is so dark and gray. Was it really gray or that was a PP. Anyway it looks heavy and interesting.
The stitch work was not a perfect one, I think :)
Great work, Stef!
I'll take a look at your other works and post comments soon.

WOW Stefania,
I love the pale blues and the wide white frame here. Norway is full of scenes like this: mind blowing. I've been there once but must go back again. One of the places were you still can enjoy absolute silence.

Hi Stefania, i have just been browsing through your gallery and you have great pictures, however this one in particular caught my eye...Beautiful panorama, with great use of thirds and the sharpness is great. There's something about dramatic skies which i just love and you have captured it really well here, its almost 3D...TFS..martha
