"With just over 1500 inhabitants, the only Norwegian settlement of any size is LONGYEARBYEN, which huddles on the narrow coastal plain below the mountains and beside the Isfjorden, roughly in the middle of the island. It was founded in 1906, when John M. Longyear, an American mine owner, established the Arctic Coal Company here. This photo was taken around 19:30, same day as the "Midnight Sun" one... The beach with silver waters is just ahead of us and the sky was that blue... that's one of the most amazing things in Svalbard: the weather situation changes in no time and it gets a completely different one. Still, it didn't rain at all and we had a wonderful time. The amount of light as exactly the same in the two photographs, meaning that the key factor is not a sunset or a sunrise because they don't occur at this time of the year(Polar days), but the thickness of the clouds...

So everybody, I know it's not as striking as the other, but now you can admire nature "in movement"; and keep enjoying the sun :))

Hi Stefania

It looks like a giant wave, about to break over a landcspe of chocolate icecream. I like the sandwiched wedge of blue sky. Good work!

To me it looks like vanilla ice cream chunks with loads of chocolate sauce. :D I dont think you would particularly like me mentioning ice cream when you were actually enjoying the sun!
I just scrolled down and see even Chris has mentioned the same ...

Stef, I hope it was worth the long walk your BBQ, also because I believe that you needed it to be fit for the walk back.

Wow Stef, it's again breathtaking...what a landscape! I love the way it seems divided into 3 parts...they all seem so small! and the colours..just wonderful!

Nice to see that you enjoyed your stay at Svalbard and Longyearbyen.
Sure a most special place and I guess your guides also told you the 'backside' of the midnight sun - living in total darkness for some months in the winter.
Nice catch of the people in front of the typical landscape detail from this small village.

Excellent POV, this way the viewer can have an idea of the size of the mountains compared to the people. Very sharp and well composed image, colorful and well lit.

Another great landscape of yours Stefy,it looks really amazing with its majestic,I like so much the sun ray effect and the undefined border betwen clouds and snow.

Mais uma vez a congratulo pela belíssima paisagem que coloca à nossa disposição.
As tonalidades estão FANTÁSTICAS!!!!
O contraste entre o azul do céu, o branco da neve e o castanho do solo está soberbo.
