Dovrefjell is a mountain range in central Norway that forms a natural barrier between the southern regions of Norway and the area around Trondheim. As a result, it has been heavily trafficked during and probably preceding historical times. Several mountain inns were established in the Middle Ages to house pilgrims traveling to Trondheim, and there are even ruins of an old leprosy colony in the northern area.

The main south-north highway (E6) and railway Dovrebanen in Norway runs over Dovrefjell. The highway is a year-round highway but is at rare occasions closed for short periods during heavy winter weather conditions.

The natural habitat for many rare plants and animals, it has become a national park in several stages starting in 1911, when some plants were put under protection. When the railroad was built from Oslo to Trondheim in 1921, one of the marshes was reserved. In 1974, parts of the range became a national park and the park was extensively enlarged in 2002. Together with Rondane it has Norway and Europe's last stock of wild reindeer of Beringia orign. Dovrefjell (west of E6/Dovrebanen) also has a stock of musk oxen, imported from East-Greenland in 1932.

the pale sky is given too much space here, Kristof, which i don't think it deserves that prominence. perhaps presenting this in a panorama with less space for the sky would make it looks more pleasant. just my humble observation. the rest of the subjects here are pleasant. thanks for the useful info.

Hi Kristof,
A very familiar view. It is ofcourse hard to say where you were exactly standing since this is such a vast open place, but I am sure that I drove by this spot.
You did capture the essence of this area with the tundra like vegetation and the high mountains in the back. For us travelers the road is also an essential part of the area.
Great colors and excellent control over the exposure.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Kristof,
for me it's typical landscape of Norwegian mountains. Blandly wrinkled high surface and monadnocks. It's a nice picture.

Szep taj, jo a beallitas. Az aszfaltos utrol nem vagyok biztos hogy a leg jobb. Igaz, ott volt es fontos resze a kirandulas elmenyenak, de talan jobban szerettem volna egy termeszetes eloteret.
Minden jot,

Hi Kristof,

This is a very nice landscape shot with lots of tones and textures, the colours are nice and sharp. It may have been a better shot from the other side of the road IMHO but well done.

Regards
Jon
