Hay bales are popular subjects during summer time as they offer shapes and colours that are attractive to photograph!

In Norway hay bales are often wrapped in white plastic, that also to allow for outdoor storage during winter…

Well, here they are… winter hay bales in black & white!

------

White snow, white bales, black fence... that's all there is! The colour version doesn't make much difference...

I'm making this addition since I'd like to emphasis there is no sand in the frame!!

Hi Pablo:
Excellent B&W and I like the 'landscape'cropping...
I have worked on a farm and driven around for hay bails:) sounds familiar!
TFS
David

hey Pablo :)
this looks really interesting.
Your choice of B&W is, I think very appropriate.
Good range of tones, composition.
Nice crop and format.
Neatly framed too, of course.

Best regards, Daniel

Simple but showing a mastery of the medium. :) Well done, good management of light and great composition, although I think I would prefer it in colour: with b&w it's hard to discern any difference between snow and, sand!
Nice work tho'

Hello Pablo,

The winter picturization of hay stock in monochrome is a unique idea. Panavision in angular light on lateral axes are enhancing the charm of vision, thus, selection of POV was a smart decision. Excellent composition in fine details, well done.

Many thanks for sharing an innovative image.

Hola amigo.
Perfectos los efectos del b/w.
Estupenda presentación con la imagen estirada horizontalmente..

Hi Pablo,

I haven't experienced a winter life, and can't imagine how's the climate and nuance of it. But you did great capturing this picture in B&W, and those shadows, scratches on the ices are very well captured.

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Hello Pablo,

I like the choice of B&W, well composed and captured great details I like them, Im going in thr next week to travel around Florida agin looking for fields farms and hay I hope im sucefull as you are well done

TFS Kyle

Hello Pablo - I like the different lines of your composition: the fence, the wheel tracks, the upright bales as well as their shadows. Intersting textures of various surfaces. Well done! - Cordelia :) :)

Hi Pablo! A familar scene for me too. Glad the snow isn't here right now though! Perfect comp for black and white ..I like the fence fading away in the distance and the textures of the snow around the hay bales...looks like you got your share there...:o) TFS
Donna:o)

We have some too but presented in longer style. But i don't believe they are so attractive by here. I try an experience and bof... The good old way of ball would be more attractive for me. But here presented in B&W and with the texture of snow finally it have interest! In fact they look like strange enormous marshmallows! :)

Hello Pablo

Interesting visual, seemingly I thought that this picture went of winter. Sells the now I see that the hay bales are wrapped. In fact I have to agree with you, it is a beautiful show.
Congratulations my friend....

Very 'apart'. Good result.

Hello Pablo,

Nice composed shot, Dear friend.
Please, don't say to us that it is a current Norway's summer ! :) :)

Malik & Mary.

Hi Pablo, it does look remarkably like sand. I guess there would be no colour in the coloured version :). Well composed and lovely light and shade. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Happy Birthday Pierre Frigon’

Yes Pablo, if there is hardly any colour you better change into B&W.
In Holland they now have plastic wrappings for the hay with paintings of colourful leaves - real funny!
TFS this winter-picture from Norway.

You have done a wonderful job presenting/croppoing the hay bales in this B&W format. The tracks in the snow add to the perspective.

Dan

Additonally thanks for the positive comments on my Lady Bugs - much appreciated.

Hi Pablo,

The composition speaks for the photo, no colors needed. Excellent B/W!
TFS

Allan

An interesting take on hay bales!!
Very true that they often appear in nice summertime shots - I like the way you have flipped that around to show their other side!
I like that you have taken the shot in B&W - i think any colour would have been a distraction.
Love the panoramic cropping :)

Hi Pablo, this is a very nice landscape, we cover those bales with the white stuff as well over here in some places.

Very nice b/w image with lots of details and I like the fence line and the round bales, they make very interesting forms to the comp.

My only nit pick would be that the shadows on the right of the bales are complety black. I wonder if it is possible to lighten a bit the shadows so that they are more in the range of dark grey instead of black. What do you think? Just a suggestion to your great photo!

Very well done! Yan :)

Hi Pablo, lovely composition with beautiful balls, great winter view, as you say this is a natural B&W, very well done, ciao Silvio

Interesting way of storing bales outdoor. When I worked as a rancher we would put them in a large shed and we didn't need to put wrapping material around. The black and white and covers thre me off at first. I wasn't sure what I was looking at, but now I know. Well composed in dual colours. Thanks Pablo :-)

Roberto

Hi Pablo,
It would have been a completely different photo if they wrapped the hay in black plastic as they do in our country. It does make sence to wrap them in white, it is more astethic when it comes to the view of the landscape.

I really like all the lines in the photo. I mean the tracks, the wired fence the shades from the bales. The all make a very attractive view.

TFS<

Very nice Pablo! Here in Texas, they wrap them in a green mesh and just leave them all scattered about. I call them "God's Cheerios" because they look like large pieces of cereal! nice BW shot, works well here!

cool shot boss...
glad to be back again after another bout of the black dog..
you got good modelling light here to emphasise some texture in the ground and fill the right hand trailing edges of the bales with lots of shadow
the fence and wheel tracks hold things together really well

Hi Pablo,
I like this one very much; even when the subjects don't move, like the hay bales, the shadows and light are constantly changing . . .
I like how the sun is low enough in the sky to make the fence posts rise up over the bales in shadow.

Nature and snow machines draw shuffled arabesques that you printed with art on no. 4 photographic paper for much relief in snow!!
How strange it is to observe the absence of snow around hay bales. The same phenomenon shows in my backyard around trees and i can't explain why.
Cheers.
