[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Yesterday's picture got some comments I will answer here.
Janneman and IsPhotography made the remark that the edge of the boat could have be horizontal. Answer to that however difficult it was because of the movement of the boat, I should have corrected that when doing the PP work - so they are quite right.
.
Rob (Viking) would have liked more whale in the picture - he is also right, but there are two things you see when going on a safari and that is a part of the whale's back and if you are very lucky, as I was, a big part of the tail just before he is diving.
He also said that it was all too close up; that then was a poor choise of me.
.
Hans felt for the photographer in the cold - well Hans, my hands were also extremely cold, however when seeing a whale having fun next to the boat, you totally forget that, it's only after the trip that you realise that you are almost frozen.
.
Joop Schotsman was also disappointed that he could not see more of the whale, however he enjoyed the story.
.
Today's upload shows what I was hoping to see, the moment before the spermwhale actually dives!
The time in the frame is for the benefit of the research centre who will use this picture when renewing their website www.whalesafari.no (whalesafari Andenes).
.
The grandchildren and 2 of the neighbours children just went home, so for me that meant having the opportunity to upload a picture.
.
Have a nice weekend,
Els

I went whale-watching in New Zealand 3 or 4 years ago...saw plenty but caught nothing as good as this shot. Catching the diving whale is just superb - wonderful picture and I am very envious!

I like the gull just over the horizon, adds even more interest.

Hello this is a superbly timed sharp shot nicely done technically tfs rgds Necip.

Good morning Els

Well my friend this is just beautiful in every way, I like the shot yesterday as it told a tale of wet windy sea conditions. This image is different all together, absolutely beautiful, graceful and shapely. You caught this at the perfect moment and its gone straight into my favourites, this image could easily be on the wallabove my fireplace I love it

TFS regards Helen

Hallo Elsje
Hier geniet ik van joh. Mooi genomen ! Groet
Rob

Nicely captured. Reminds me of the time I went out here in the River to see these big mammals. Fascinating. Keep them coming. Nice series

Hello Els,

This is wonderful capture of the sperm whale. Perfect timing, sharp. TFS

Hoi Els,

Mooi vastgelegd!
groeten,
Joop!

Awow. What a very special moment you've captured here, Els.
Worth all the money you spend on this trip.
This picture is sure not able to explain the excitement you must have had, while this giant was passing the boat.
Really an magnificent moment. Bravo and thanks for sharing.
Fijne avond, Jan

Heerlijke opname Elzebelske

Mooie nuttige TL foto Els.
Groet uit het Haagsche:
\John

Fantastisch!

Gr.,
Anneke

..hi Els..
Ha!..

Fantastic capture!!
Nice weekend for you,Els..

Hello Els,
An image full of poetry!
Very well composed, and I'm sure Rob didn't expect the whale to come up and pose full frontal, hehehe...
Atmosphere and special light is well captured!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Els
Nice clear and sharp picture. My 'abstract eye' tells me that you nee nedd a closer crop arround the tail to show only tail and water.
TFS

Hi Els,
Wonderful! Great POV, one of my favorite ocean images. Perfect sharpness, detail and colors.
I have one painted on my living room wall. If you recall - I love Dolphins (I'm still not able to place a link - here goes another attempt :)

I tried...and gave up :O

TFS
and a nice weekend to you too.

perfect timing of this beatiful animal
I hope you enjoyed the whale safari?
I think it´s very interesting
best regards Toba

Very nice shot Els! I've never been whale watching myself but this is what I would imagine of wanting for a shot. Good clean focus, very pleasing composition and very natural colors. Excellant shot...one to be proud of!

Lyndon

Els, I took photos of Humpback whales in Australia some years back, and dolphins in NZ last year.
I know how hard it is to get the perfect shot, and I think this photo and yesterdays are good.
Well done
Jancie

Bravo Els,

Mmm... this shot arouses some jealousy, Els ;o). I hope I get to see this too, once in my lifetime! Good choice for fast shutter speed, its movement is nicely frozen.
The horizon still appears a bit tilted (sorry, I noticed it immediately) but that doesn't distract too much from the subject.
Some extra contrast might bring out some more detail in the backdrop.
Anyway, TFS. Still jealous ;o)!
