This is a view from the new viewpoint platform at Stegastein near the end of the Snowvegen (Snow road) looking out on a UNESCO world Heritage site, the Nærøyfjord. This fjord was included to the list together with the Geirangerfjord

The village in the foreground is called Aurlandvangen.

Justification for Inscription

The West Norwegian Fjords are classic, superbly developed fjords, considered as the type locality for fjord landscapes in the world. They are comparable in scale and quality to other existing fjords on the World Heritage List and are distinguished by the climate and geological setting. The property displays a full range of the inner segments of two of the world’s longest and deepest fjords.

The Nærøyfjord and Geirangerfjord areas are considered to be among the most scenically outstanding fjord areas on the planet. Their outstanding natural beauty is derived from their narrow and steep-sided crystalline rock walls that rise up to 1400 m direct from the Norwegian Sea and extend 500 m below sea level. Along the sheer walls of the fjords are numerous waterfalls while free-flowing rivers rise up through deciduous and coniferous forest to glacial lakes, glaciers and rugged mountains. There is a great range of supporting natural phenomena, both terrestrial and marine such as submarine moraines and marine mammals. Remnants of old and now mostly abandoned transhumant farms add a cultural aspect to the dramatic natural landscape that complements and adds human interest to the area.

Hi Neik,

Well balance composition. The details are great from foreground to BG, such a beautiful place, you're lucky to have this kind of breathtaking scenery.

tfs.......Buddy

There is a great flow to this image Niek from the lower left,
zig zagging all the way to the upper right.
An excellent composition of this stunning view.
Well done.

Hi Niek,
Extraordinary view of this fjord. Excellent POV and stunning landscape. Perfect sharpness and details and the enlightment is very good despite the cloudy weather. Classic shot from Norway! Well done! TFS.
Friendly greetings,
Kristof

Hi Niek

Fantastic height this, you almost suffer vertigo looking at it!
It's a tad dark on the bottom half of the frame but apart from that the composition and drama is amazing, the football pitch is tiny in comparison with the area as a whole and you've managed to control exposure very well.
Fantastic location, keep up the good work mate!

Dean.

P.s. I was reading some comments on some of my photos from sometime ago and you were asking about the hitech filters I was using, did you ever change to them from Cokin and if so how do you find them??

Super crisp. The FG gives the BG scale. The curved water adds to the composition. Nice details. tFS. Karin

Hoi Niek,

Hi Niek,
Lovely vertical presentation of the strikingly beautiful fjord.

Norway, such a beautiful country for scenic shots. I think I would have cropped out the buildings at the bottom of the shot and maybe cloned out the road on the left. But that said, the shot as it is is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
