Nor sunset, or sunrise, just the sun... The Midnight Sun...
*************************************************
Svalbard archipelago is one of the most hostile places on earth. It was probably discovered in the twelfth century by Icelandic seamen, though it lay ignored until 1596 when the Dutch explorer Willem Barents named the main island, Spitsbergen, after its needle-like mountains. In 1899, rich coal deposits were discovered in the geological residue of a prehistoric tropical forest. The first coal mine was opened by an Americans seven years later and passed into Norwegian hands in 1916. In 1920, Norway's sovereignty over the archipelago was ratified by international treaty. Spitsbergen is the only island of Svalbars permanently inhabited.

This photo was takes around 20:00 in the evnening, but there's no difference in light over the day; it's 24hs like that... The only difference one may see is the direction of the sun, and thickness of the clouds...
Some of you may point out tilts, or imperfections I may had forgotten to clone out or so... But I was mesmerised by the nature.. For that I may be forgiven ;))

enjoy the sun everybody!!

Take care, Stef

Beautiful shot Stefania, well captured, great colours and very well composed, I especially like the light that shine throught the cloud on the water creating the reflection.. very well done, thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Stefy.
Vert terrific sky. The reflection on the water is splendid. The moutain in the background [ ;-) ] adds just the little detail that would missed. Great job.
Have a nice lunch ;-)

Lindo, lindo, lindo!!!
Adorava ter esta foto numa moldura na minha casa!!! Fantástico Stef. Os meus parabéns!!!!!!

Under Midnight Sun i think water is cold?
It's impressive. It's look the land is very desert. Remain pratically the first time of earth impression. Lightm water and land... That's all... The rest will come later...

Great landscape, Stef! Even though you centered the horizon. I think it still works very well in this case, probably because of the uniformity of light, and that band of orange sky in the middle. Excellent!

Beautiful Stef.
Lovely light and textures yet again a stunning post

thanks
Chris

oh my god... what a stunning shot honey! and what an amazing place... truly magical with those colours and that amazing light... it makes me think of all those old Norse myths and legends that i used to love reading about and which focused so strongly on the haunting beauty of the land.. (and sea of course) and you have captured that enchantment so brilliantly! wow.. make me really want to see it myself :-)

really wonderful shot my dear Stef! maybe there werent any polar bears but this place certainly put on a great show for you anyway ^_^

big PB hugs,
Ayda

This is one amazing capture. Excellent light work on this breath taking composition.

Wow! brilliant shot Stef, I really like the colours and the sunlight coming through the gaps in the clouds. Very informative note too. Well done

John

What an incredible moment being displayed by the heavens and you were right there to capture this. The mood here is truly superb along with the natural display of lighting for this region.
I do see some differing artifacts from the scan. But no matter as the 46 critiques before me will gladly show.
Love the title too!

Michael

At first sight I would say:
for the sky it was a timelapse shot or a Neat Image filter, but looking at the sea it couldn't be.
You found the right balance between them.
Congrats!
However......one can meet these oppotunities around the clock.
I'm jealous!!!
Groet,
Joop.

Hi Stefania,
A great capture of this highly dramatic landscape, but beautiful too if you're able to deal with the hostility! I went there once, it was kinda out of this world to me too even if I live a bit closer than you do!

Midnight sun is something I'd like to see one day. In the meantime, I can enjoy photographs like this, which serve only to heighten my sense of anticipation of the day I'll experience this phenomenon first-hand.

Great image with some good detail in the cloud cover.
