Good capture of the expresion of the child here Jack, one can see how excited she was ..; for the compo i would have included the goose completely in the picture , and for the effect maybe if you duplicated the bg layer, applied the effect and then gummed out the mother and child tthe picture would benefit from it imo ...

Hi Jack,
I very much like the moment you capture here, the joy in that little girl's face is priceless! The bird however seems to be a tad more sceptical... Good dynamics in your composition, maybe the dominant shadow is a bit disturbing though...
