[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Wachock was first mentioned in historical records in 1179. In the thirteenth century, a Cisterian abbey was founded there, and today its buildings form the most notable sight in the town. In 1454, Wąchock received its town rights.
In January 1863, soon after the January Uprising broke out, General Marian Langiewicz created out of a group of 1400 men professional military units. In 1869, Russian authorities, in revenge for the town's aid to the insurgents, deprived Wąchock of its city rights.
In 1994, Wąchock regained its town status.
