The Lesko cemetery is something that i was most impressed by , the sight of several hundreds gravestones scattered amidst tall trees and high grass , some of them had amazingly rich decoration , the oldest dating back to the 16th century, now that 's along time ago. The well evident state of neglect and abandonment is what makes the experience of a visit here quite poignant and interesting as well . The cemetery had been left alone in total isolation for a long long time .This photo dates from 1994 , hopefully , since my visit it has gotten a fair part of maintenace as most stones weren't upright in any way , some knocked down lying flat on the ground.
Lesko is notable mostly for its Jewish heritage , a 17th century synagogue sits near the main square and was housing an art gallery when i visited then .
Thank you ,
scanned from a print , cropped , increased saturation a little , contrast, sharpened and framed,

Well my friend .. I don't know if you lost a lot in the scanning of this shot, but it does seem to have lost some definition.
However, full marks for the composition and the subject matter .. love the colors .. obviously in the dappled light under the trees. Nice saturation of the colors. I like the way you've composed the shot with the main headstone on the right side, and the consecutive ones leading the eye into the shot. It's a really great photo. For a shot taken in '94,and scanned, I think you've done a good job my friend.
Have a good 'last' weekend :)

Hi Carol
impressive place.
good capture, well composed. good scanning of an old photo.
the special spirit of this old cemetery is clearly shown in the shape and colors of the stones.
I have in my gallery a similar photo of the Jewish cementery in Prague.
greetings and tfs
tsilla
Hey Carol !
Like the composition and the saturation in general.
Only the green of the plants is, IMO, a bit too much.
I'm no expert in scanning photos, but I think you did a fine job.
If possible tell us the parameters of the scan ( scanned at resolution xxxx )
this would be helpfull I think for others with the same " problem " :-)
Greetings my friend
Jan

Hi Carol
Not easy to reproduce what we saw with a scan from a print out, but I think you did extremely well as you convey the dissaray we often see in abandoned cemetaries. So much to learn from a walk into these resting places.
I found that using unsharp mask helped a lot to clear up the old shots, and also make sure that the resolutions that you scan with( I go with 600) should be the same in your graphics program. I found out the hard way.
