Monument of the children's group with suitcases before Main Station in Danzig, unveiled 6 May 2009, commemorates the Kindertransports, which on the breakthrough year 1938 and 1939 were organized from Free City of Danzig.
When in Danzig Nazis began repressions vs Jewish population - beatings, arrests, complete destruction of synagogues in Sopot and Danzig, was begun organizing of the departures from Free City of Danzig. The only country, which agreed to receive Jewish children, was Great Britain. From Danzig left about 130 Jewish children. Here they saw last time their relatives, which then in majority were killed.
The author of monument is Frank Meisler, born in Danzig and saved in Kindertransports. He is also creator of two another monuments, which are them consecrated. First stood up on railway station Liverpool Street in London in 2006, second since 2008 has stood in Berlin. |

Witaj Robert;
dobre ujęcie, kadr objął cały historyczny pomnik; świetna ostrość no i imponująca notka informacyjna;
czy to fotka z nowego aparatu?
pozdrawiam
ps. Inflanty aktualne, zapisałam nas na wyjazd
Good evening Robert,
I have read the story in your note and I find it fascinating. Statue is also impressive, but...I would compose this image a bit differently to get all the attention to the statue. Maybe you should have tried different POV, because I find that building in the BG a bit disturbing and the sky seems a bit burned out. But that is only my opinion.
Best regards,
Stasa
