Stark, yes. There is plenty of visual delight here to combat boredom. The tonal quality, the heavy diagonal, the thin dividing horizon line (almost level), the gulls - and the gull IN the water helps. All good.
I would probably be tempted to take a thin slice off the top, to move the horizon line a little higher in the frame. After all, there are no cloud details to lose. I realise that it is now on the third line but ...
All in all, well worth a 'Laughing Medal'

This is far from beeing noring with this diagonal in the middle and the seagull that bring life to it. Great shot.
