Saint Margaret Chapel is situated in Kraków(Salwator) on Saint Bronislawa Street.
It is one of three left wooden temples in Krakow. At first it was built as christian cemetery chapel of a "moire" cemetery, where ills of plague were buried. It is believed that, a statue of a pogan god of the wind named Poświst was standing there primarily, and it is the reason why the chapel is called "gontyna", what means a pre-slav chapel. During a long history it burned many times. The present one has been erected during years 1680-90, inspired by Sister Justyna Oraczewska of St. Norbert Monastery. |
